Woman shares photos of teen neighbor who selflessly looks after her ailing parents

Kids helping the elders is a pretty age-old tradition. It’s how kids show their seniors that they care. Unless they’re doing it just to earn brownie points from mom and dad.

But there truly are some kids with the purest of hearts out there. This news story is about a particularly sweet teenager.

Tiki Joyner Edwards shared this tale of teenager Romemylion Mitchell.

The young Romemylion, then 15, lived across the street from Tiki’s parents. Tiki’s father needs a wheelchair to even get around, and her mother is stuck in bed due to an illness.

Both her parents are elderly and need the sort of care and attention you’d expect.

Romemylion isn’t just close to them in proximity. He’s close to them in heart too. The teenager has grown deeply caring about Tiki’s mom and dad.

And just how much does he care about the elderly couple? Well, enough to ride with Tiki’s dad to the store for errands.

Romemylion even helps him carry the groceries in.

When the senior years catch up to you, even doing errands can be a difficult task. Maybe your hip hurts a lot more, or you can’t quite bend down like you used to.

It’s moments like that when having a young helping hand can mean a lot.

When you’re older and not as springy as you used to be, you’ll appreciate someone like Romemylion too.

“He cuts the grass and whatever they may need. Not many 15 yr olds would take the time to care and be there for elderly neighbors.” – said Tiki

Especially if you have to stay in bed and recover like Tiki’s mom.

Romemylion’s care for them is no small thing. When he saw Tiki’s mother one day, the teen couldn’t help but embrace her and cry a bit. I suppose they’ve become like a second set of parents to him.

He says that he first met them when he saw Tiki’s dad taking out the trash.

Romemylion saw his amputated leg and couldn’t help but ask.

A few conversations later and he was learning about his past job as a plumber, and how an infection led to the amputated leg.

It was here that the teen offered to help with the trash, and soon, anything else they might need help with.

For instance, helping Tiki’s mom with the computer. Since we all know how difficult some old people find it to navigate computers.

Tiki’s viral Facebook post about Romemylion was all the way from 2019. It’s hard to believe that was 3 years ago.

The pandemic has really made most of us lose our sense of time. But hard times like these are what makes us truly appreciate people like Romemylion.

The past 3 years have been a nightmare to many people. Most of us weren’t quite strong enough to deal with all of it.

So be kind and give a helping hand to someone if you can!
