“Handy” husband allows his wife to rent him out for $45 an hour to earn decent living
Midway through 2022, Laura launched their handyman service.
But this is no ordinary service.
Since January 2022, Laura has been leasing her husband James’ handyman services for £40 per hour; they are almost always fully booked.
The business is doing so well.
In fact, they have to decline tasks because they are so overrun with consumers.
It all began with a podcast Laura was listening to about a man who made money putting together furniture for other people.
She immediately thought of her husband.
Her spouse is more skilled in areas like installation, woodworking, and creating furniture. Perhaps they will succeed as well.
James was on board with the concept once Laura pitched it to him, so they began their “rent my handy husband” business right away.
Business was better than they imagined.
And what happened next was beyond their wildest dreams.
Initially, Laura advertised James’ services on Facebook and the Nextdoor mobile app.
Almost immediately, they received their first call, and before they knew it, they had received job requests from people who lived 240 kilometers (150 miles) away.
It was more than they expected.
As a matter of fact, James was able to leave his work since their venture was so successful.
James can now devote all of his attention to the business and spend more time with his wife and their three children, two of whom have been identified as having autism spectrum disorders.
His kids aren’t the only ones.
James was diagnosed with the condition just four years prior.
He presumably enjoys building and construction because of his condition.
“He’s got a very methodical mind and can think outside the box. He sees things differently,” Laura said, in awe of her husband.
He uses this for home improvement.
It’s time to apply the same principle to other people’s residences.
James handles the work, and Laura handles the marketing and reservations.
Numerous works, ranging from “flat pack assembly to designing and manufacturing dining tables, installing kitchens, creating pantries, assembling various sized trampolines, house improvements, and more,” have already been performed by him.
Even gardening services are available.
Additionally, he now offers installation of Christmas lights (both inside and outside the house) in anticipation of the impending holiday.
James is capable of virtually anything.
His clientele who lack the time would benefit greatly from this.
The couple is still in awe at how much their business blossomed.
They also provide special discounts to seniors over 65, employees of the NHS and emergency services, persons with disabilities, and caregivers.
This is because they truly resonate with and appreciate these people.
“We know what it’s like to be parents of children with special needs,” Laura said. “We’ve known what it’s like to struggle for money or have to save.”
The couple wants nothing more than to pay it forward to as many people as they can.
Who would’ve thought that a simple podcast can permanently turn their lives around?
Indeed, life is full of surprises, especially if you just have faith and believe!
