This corgi puppy went to the store and she couldn’t possibly be more excited
Since the coronavirus lockdown, there are scores of people who have had to avoid their favorite destructive habit – going to Target. And while it has probably saved fans of the store plenty of money, these photos of a happy puppy traversing the aisles aren’t going to make staying away any easier.
Zira the corgi belongs to Jesse and Kasey Donovan, who have a website and Instagram account devoted to their pets (and now their son).
Kasey wrote of the photos:
“My dog went to Target—and look how happy she is! Zira’s a 4 month-old Corgi and Mini Aussie mix; and is in love with anything she can chew!”
Zira is an incredibly cute puppy. And when her owner managed to capture the 4-month-old’s excitement in her Target cart in January of 2018, hearts melted.
Kasey also said the trip was spontaneous and the couple didn’t originally plan to bring in their pup, but the whole thing did manage to brighten at least one shopper’s day.
“She absolutely loved it! Zira got new treats and a toy. While we were turning a corner, this woman shopping saw her and freaked out! She couldn’t stop going on and on about how cute Zira was.”
Just look at Zira’s thrill at seeing all the bright, shiny things, and doting strangers, and random things to sniff.
This puppy is having the time of her life!
Many commenters on the Facebook page for Love What Matters, where the photos were also uploaded, said it’s probably the same look they get when they walk in the store.
Of course, others were curious as to why there was a puppy allowed in Target at all.
Quite a few people were downright annoyed since puppies aren’t typically trained well and allergies abound (and, of course, in some states, pets aren’t allowed in any stores, even if they’re really cute).
And as many people know, the only animals allowed in Target are service animals, which Zira is not.
And while people called the questioning commenters “buzzkills,” it is a valid question. So valid that the family ended up apologizing.

Jesse and Kacey took responsibility for their mistake and began spreading awareness about pet-friendly stores. And they were careful to let people know that it’s hard enough for people with service animals to be accepted in public places and they didn’t want to make the situation worse.
While we love seeing these photos, it is most important to be more considerate of the people around you – something we’re not always so good at.
So now the family takes trips with the dogs to places like PetSmart, where pets are welcome.

And since the photos of Zira spread far and wide so quickly, the couple was able to get the word out to a lot more people. In fact, their Instagram page went from about 2000 followers 40,000 in just a few days (now they’re up to nearly 50k).
Zira’s owners later explained on their website that they were not aware of a Target policy of allowing only service dogs in its aisles and listed 5 dog-friendly (at least in their state) stores that Zira loves.
They also took to Instagram to say they’d be more considerate in the future:
“My trip to Target does not make it okay for all dogs to go to their local market. We will now be more considerate about service animals needing to do their job! Everyone should do the same!”
It’s actually a pretty cool thing to see people accept their mistakes, take responsibility, and agree to do better in the future!
That’s certainly something we’d like to see more of – in addition to puppy photos!
