There is something about an unlikely animal friendship that just fills your heart with joy.

Maybe because it gives us hope for the rest of us, maybe because animals are just adorable and seeing two of them together is enough to warm the soul.

But it’s really not unusual for different animals to get along with other species. The saying “fighting like cats and dogs” is so common that it almost makes us believe that the pair can’t get along – but we know that’s not true! Tons of adorable pups and their feline companions live together in harmony.

Though it’s not too often that you hear about a cat making friends with a hedgehog.

But it happens! Or at least it has for Audree the Bengal cat and Herbee the hedgehog.

Seeing the two of them together is nothing if not adorable. It’s animal friendship goals, and their owners share tons of beautifully captured cute photos to Instagram of the pair together.

Talitha Girnus lives in Germany and manages the Instagram page for her adorable spikey, furry family. Herbee is the star of the show, with more than 1.8 million followers.

You may have seen one of his viral photos before.

They usually involve him sitting in the palm of his owner’s hand, looking so excited to be in whatever part of the world he’s visiting.

That is the face of a hedgehog who’s living his best life!

And that’s not to say that Audree the Bengal isn’t just as cute. She’s stunning! But there’s something about the novelty of a cute hedgehog, which we see far less frequently, that gives Herbee his extra fame.

But just look at those striking blue eyes!

The two together are unstoppable. And you can see how much they love spending time together.

Talitha Girnus brings them along for road trips and other adventures. She snaps some truly amazing photos, but it helps that her pets are so photogenic.

Talitha adopted spikey little Herbee when he was only three months old, and then Aubree shortly after.

Though her dream (literally) had always been to adopt a Bengal cat. They’re a great breed for adventures, and get along well with other people and pets.

“One night I had a dream that I had a Bengal cat that I took on adventures and we became the best friends ever,” she told Bored Panda. “When I woke up and realized it was only a dream, I became sad. But a few moments later I realized that this dream wasn’t something that couldn’t turn into reality. And so I started to Google.”

She had already adopted Herbee from someone who found out they were allergic to hedgehogs and couldn’t keep him anymore. Talitha wasn’t sure how Herbee and Aubree would get along, and wanted to test it before she brought Aubree home.

But the moment they met they became best friends!
