Giant herd of elephants shuts down traffic in Thailand
Almost everyone has been in a sticky traffic situation before. Maybe there was an accident up ahead and you can’t move. Or perhaps there’s a slowdown due to road construction or an injured animal in the road. Whatever the case may be, traffic issues usually aren’t too big of a deal.
Something unusual
But that’s not always the case. Every once in a while, a traffic jam gets a bit more…exotic. Sometimes, they’re so amazing you have to stop to take pictures. That’s what happened recently in Thailand.
There was a huge backup
Not too long ago, there was a traffic jam in the Chachoengsao province of Thailand. There was so much traffic the police had to shut down the entire road. People even got out of their cars to snap photos.
What was so intriguing?
People didn’t pull their cars over for just anything. Police had to shut down the road to allow a herd of elephants to cross. But it wasn’t just any herd… it consisted of at least 50 of them, all of different sizes and ages. The group was incredibly massive. Even in Asia, this is rare.
They were being tracked
The elephants’ path was being tracked by nearby wildlife officers. They do that so it’s easier to keep these incredible animals safe from humans and human activity. Once the wildlife officers saw the elephants were going to cross the road, they knew they needed to close it. Their goal was to help these majestic animals cross safely.
Onlookers were astounded
Just imagine if you were in a situation like this. What would you do? If you found yourself at the scene of this traffic jam, you’d likely take some pictures. They’d be some stunning shots that you could keep for a long time and of course, share with others.
In watching the video, you can see most onlookers are taking photos while waiting for the elephants to pass by. If you notice, the adult elephants surround the younger ones to offer them full protection.
One man filmed the event
Thankfully, one man named Pratya Chutipat Sakul wanted to remember the moment even more clearly. So, he took a video. He said, “The elephants were all so calm and barely noticed the humans. I feel very lucky to have seen such an amazing sight.”
A carefully executed plan
The same man explained what happened, “The wildlife officers had been following the elephants for the last few days. When they saw that their path was moving towards the road, they called the police and urgently closed the road. Policemen arrived to ensure that the elephants crossed smoothly and there were no accidents.”
Understanding drivers
You might expect some drivers would get upset about the slowdown. After all, they probably just wanted to reach their destinations. But that wasn’t their reaction. Sakul said, “Nobody minds waiting for the elephants, as the most important thing is that they’re safe.”
This isn’t something you see every day, which is why it was such a special sight for anyone who witnessed it. From the time Sakul uploaded the video to social media, it’s being seen by people all over the world. Quickly, the story spread.
