Hero dog leads passing motorist to abandoned baby and saves its life

Junrell Fuentes Revilla never imagined he would help save a life while riding his motorcycle.

And he definitely never imagined that he would be aiding a dog in saving the life of a child.

Revilla was taking a mountainside cruise in Cebu, Philippines on his motorcycle when the dog started chasing after him.

This dog would not stop barking. It seemed as if the dog was trying to tell him something.

Revilla figured he should stop and see what was going on with this dog.

He walked up to the dog who turned around and walked toward a dumpsite. The dog encouraged Revilla to follow him.

So, Revilla did and when he reached the dumpsite he saw a small moving heap among the refuse.

Revilla was shocked to find that the heap was actually a newborn human baby.

Someone had left the baby wrapped in a brown towel at the isolated location on a patch of grass which is located on top of the mountain. The child’s umbilical cord was still attached.

Revilla sprung into action and picked the baby up to immediately bring the to the closest hospital and called the police.

The child was taken into the custody of the Department of Social Welfare.

Because of the dog, the baby was found in time and was still in good health. Police are trying to locate the parents or anyone with information about the child. The local news quickly picked up the story.

Hope for Strays, an animal welfare organization, stepped in to see if they could find the dog, who they believed was a stray, to give him a forever home.

But they didn’t find the dog, who was an 18-month-old puppy named Blacky.

“After a few minutes, a guy on a motorcycle passed by and we then asked and showed him Blacky’s pictures regarding his whereabouts,” Hope for Strays Staff Member Gea Ybarita said.

Ybarita said they had traveled for hours to the remote area and were relieved to find that this person was actually Blacky’s owner, Kuya Lyndon Olingay. The owner invited the shelter’s staff over where they could meet Blacky who was playing with three other dogs.

The shelter staff said they were thrilled to learn that Blacky had a very loving home.

Blacky’s family is a dog-loving family. They have four adult dogs and five puppies. They are very kind, which is probably why Blacky is such a great dog.

“[Blacky’s owner] stated, ‘No matter how hard life is, even though I’m poor, I feed all of my dogs and take care of them well,’” Hope for Strays Staff Member Gea Ybarita Ybarita said.

Blacky has been hailed as a hero for saving the child’s life. His story quickly went viral.

“Bless them both, dog and the man for listening to the dog. Poor little baby. Hope all is good with the baby and that the man took care of him or her. God’s blessing, wonderful angels sent by God to save the baby,” one commenter said on Facebook.

The community wanted to thank Blacky and his family for the dog’s heroic act.

So, they brought the family donations of food and pet supplies. Now the family will have a little less to worry about when it comes to taking care of their little hero and his doggo siblings.
