We all need to be able to fix things from time to time. This has especially been the case during the pandemic. To this end, it helps to know someone who can teach you all the tricks of the trade you might need to know.
When it comes to electrical wiring, things can get pretty complicated. If you don’t know what you are doing, you should follow the advice of someone who does.
Electrical wiring work can be dangerous.
Working with electrical wiring can be dangerous. Someone who doesn’t know what they are doing runs the risk of electrocution or other types of injury.
51,000 homes every year in the United States fall victim to fire from electrical wiring problems. This equates to $1.3 billion in property damage. Even worse, almost 500 deaths a year are attributed to this. It’s an area where you really need to know what you’re doing or have someone who does nearby.
An additional advantage to having someone knowledgeable on these matters in your life is that they can give you little tips and tricks to make things easier.
Your power outlets have useful tools you probably don’t know about.
See Jane Drill is a popular home improvement YouTube channel for beginners and experts alike. The host of the channel, whose name is Leah and not Jane, says that some people will know about the first tool but the second tool found on power outlets is pretty hidden.
“So here’s the thing, there are actually two tools that you can use. One is well-known and it’s on the back of an outlet. The other one, well, it’s a little hidden. You have to do know it’s there,” she says in the video.
There are two tools attached to your power outlet that you are likely not aware of. The first is a stripping tool. It is located at the back of your power outlet. This tool will allow you to prepare wires easily and with precision.
“It’s a stripping gauge. It tells you how far you want to strip the wire for side-wiring,” Leah continued in the video.
The second hidden tool found on power outlets.
The second tool is a wire stripper.
“On the left-hand side, it’s wire-stripper for 14 gauge wire, and on the right-hand side, it’s wire stripper for a 12 gauge wire,” Leah continued.
Leah then continued to talk about when this information might come in handy for someone.
“Now, you may never use the wire-strippers in an electrical outlet but here’s the thing, if you ever find yourself in need of wire-strippers and you don’t have a pair, you just might use it after all.”
Viewers respond to this helpful hack.
Sometimes knowing a secret like this can save people time and money on home improvement projects. Many people who found Leah’s video helpful took the time to write a comment on her YouTube page.
“Wow! I’ve been a licensed plumber for 30 years and done my share of wiring as well. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve wished I could find my wire strippers. You are my hero!” wrote one grateful viewer.
“See Jane Drill. I’m curious how you personally came by that information? Reading the comments, there are many others who have overlooked these features for decades. I’m very impressed. So, did you figure it out on your own, someone shared it with you? Or are you one of the 2% who read included instructions? You are simply AWESOME!!!” wrote another.
“Wow: mind blown. Worked at lowes for 18 years and remodeling for 5 years and never knew,” yet another impressed viewer noted.
