High school student shows off his Michael Jackson dance skills – student section goes wild
As controversial a figure Michael Jackson was, the one thing we can all agree on is that the legendary praise for his music and performances aren’t without merit. His dance moves are a large part of his artistry, and people all over the world love imitating and paying homage to him.
MJ dance impersonations go way back, and you can probably still find hundreds of examples on YouTube.
At Pitman High School, the star MJ impersonator is none other than Brett Nichols. Brett graced the walls of his school’s auditorium with a showstopping Michael Jackson dance cover, which now sits at a staggering 17 million views on Youtube.
Brett had done this way back in 2014 as well, and they loved it so much that they asked him to return for another performance.
Fortunately for us, Brett happily obliged, so now we got to see his moves for ourselves.
The crowd cheers as he enters, most likely because they know who he is and what he does. They accompany his entry with MJ’s Billie Jean. Clearly this is someone with a reputation.
Brett’s a rather ordinary-looking guy until he steps onto the dance floor. That’s when he lets his skills loose, and you’d be lucky to be one of the people who gets to see it when it happens.
His choice for this performance was the live version of Dangerous, one of MJ’s most popular routines since he performed it during the Dangerous World Tour.
The memorable gunshot sounds that mark the start of the performance begins, and Brett faithfully mimics MJ’s movements, with two schoolmates serving as the backup performers who get “shot” at the start.
It’s hard to tell if the screams are coming from the recording or the actual crowd, but trust us – in just a minute it will definitely be from just the crowd.
Brett does MJ’s swagger walk down the stage (or in this case, a basketball court floor..), nodding his head to the words. Then the beat starts, and he cranks up the energy. And now the screams start.
He shuffles, he pops, he locks and he moves. He never misses a beat, and every move he makes is on cue. The crowd is absolutely losing it, and Brett is happy to deliver.
Knowing how he’d been practicing his moves for years now (remember, he did this same thing back in 2014!), he probably remembers all the steps by heart. A YouTube comment reads:
“Went to school with Brett he’s a very down to earth guy that no one would ever bat an eye to, until he built up the courage to show off his true passion. He first did it in 2014 when I was a senior and all I could say was that I was shook just as much at the next person. He’s a hell of a guy and one good dancer!”
Most of the screaming comes from the girls as Brett graces the dance floor. We don’t know if they’re screaming for the reason we think they are, or if they’ve known Brett for a while and are just impressed by his dancing. Or you know, it could be both.
And then he takes off his jacket, which makes the crowd scream even louder. What else did we expect?
Brett didn’t need any backup dancers for this. Even without backup dancers, he blows the crowd away all while never missing a step. And of course, no MJ impersonation performance is complete without a moonwalk.
Brett has every one of MJ’s signature moves mastered, it seems. He ends the performance with an iconic pose, and the cheering goes from loud to nearly deafening. Brett killed it.
Having gotten the attention of the whole school, and 17 million more people on YouTube, it may be understating to say Brett is a star. Michael Jackson’s influence isn’t going away anytime soon, and people like Brett are making sure of that.
But don’t rely on us to give the whole picture to you. Take the time to watch Brett’s killer dancing for yourself in the video below. Share this article too – we all know someone who loves a good dance video.
