Nearly 400 high school students dance in unison at graduation, show “We’re All In This Together”
“We’re all in this together.” There are no truer words and yet that’s not how high school feels most of the time.
But it was a true enough sentiment that 392 students from the Holy Trinity College of General Santos City Senior High School in South Cotabato, Philippines sang and danced to the song at their 2019 graduation.
Now, over 2 million people have seen the incredible video of one of only a handful of high school graduations in history that wasn’t a total snooze.
“Not only does this look so fun but I’m so happy for that audience. Graduations are usually so freaking boring,” said one viewer.
A student, Ric Sherwin Versoza, shared the video on Facebook and YouTube after the March 27, 2019 event held in the Lagao Gymnasium in General Santos City, Philippines.
Clad in dark green caps and gowns, nearly 400 teens rocked out to the song from the movie-musical High School Musical. Pretty fitting, don’t you think?
Versoza also told Coconuts Manila that his teacher, Jeatrin Oro, was the one who choreographed the dance and that students were able to learn the moves in just 2 weeks.
“[S]he told us that it is a very good song and personally it’s true, we love that song because it also became part of our childhood,” he said in the interview via Facebook Messenger.
The class also sang “A Million Dreams” from the 2018 movie The Greatest Showman.
When asked how he felt being part of the scene and looking back on it now, the student said it was all bittersweet.
“We enjoyed it a lot but also at the same time, [it was] sad for it is also our last dance… And the last time we’ll be seeing each other,” he lamented.
Commenters, meanwhile, are pretty darn jealous of the fantasy dance scene this school was able to pull off IRL.
“Y’all I went to the W R O N G school,” said one woman.
Didn’t we all.
“That…was the most impressive thing I HAVE EVER SEEN DONE AT GRADUATION,” said another commenter.
Of course, some couldn’t get past their Harry Potter fever and the fact that the students’ green robes made them look like House Slytherin students. But, alas, they are Muggles like the rest of us.
“Rare footage of Slytherins winning the house cup,” said one woman in a commente that even the original poster appreciated.
The video, song, and dance are even more special because that’s precisely the setting in which the song and dance take place in the musical.
And the fact that every student was willing to take part in this (even the guys) was the most impressive part to some.
This is so much better than hearing a bunch of names rattled off one after the other (although we’re sure that took place as well).
But even though an integral part of graduation is giving each student a chance to be on stage to get their diploma while their parents frantically try to get the best photo from back in the audience, this high school wanted to drive home the point that at the end of the day, we ARE all in this together – even when things are less than magical.
