In the world we live in today, you just never know when you are going to have to be a hero. Being a hero isn’t always a big, eventful thing, and could be as simple as helping an elderly woman in a grocery store. Still, the time does occasionally arise when you are needed in the traditional sense, and it’s time to get a bit physical in the face of a real threat. For one high school wrestler in New Mexico, that happened to him.

One high schooler confronted a kidnapper in broad daylight and saved the day.

This incredible chain of events occurred at Chucky’s Food Mart in New Mexico. One day, a terrible thing happened – a mother was shopping for a few things in the store when she noticed a man following her around and making her uncomfortable.

Any woman knows that you NEVER ignore your instincts in a situation like this one.

Going right outside the gas station convenience store, she called an Uber and waited with her three children to be picked up. Looking around, she noticed that the man had begun to shamelessly stare at her and her three kids in a really, really worrisome way. Things were getting serious.

Then, out of nowhere, the man ran over and grabbed one of her three children!

In the blink of an eye, the event had turned from an uncomfortable one to an outright kidnapping. Grabbing one of the children, the man demanded that the woman give the other children to her.

Fighting back, the woman pushed her way into the door of the store and cried out for help. That’s when Canaan, the high school boy, noticed the commotion.

A stranger tried to pull the door shut, but he was soon overpowered by the enraged man outside. Across the street, Canaan noticed what was going on. The 16-year-old athlete immediately lept into action. When he made it over to the gas station, he saw that the man was trying to break into the storage room where the woman and kids were hiding.

With his extensive experience in wrestling under his belt, he gave the man some of his own medicine!

Grabbing him, throwing him on the concrete floor, and pinning him, Canaan used his training to completely overpower and subdue the crazed man. Although he was worried that the man had weapons, there were kids at risk and something needed to be done.

Holding the man in submission until the cops arrived, Canaan had totally saved the day.

Handing the man over to the proper authorities, everyone was in awe of what just happened. It only took 5 minutes, but the results could have been very, very different if it wasn’t for a heroic move by Caanan. Athletes and people from all over the region came forward to voice their support for the young man.

You can never really know when it’s your time to be a hero, but Canaan surely stepped up and did his part!
