The old idiom “never get into a car with a stranger” had a heartwarming ending on this particular day! Brandon McNamee from Missouri had an experience that is likely to change his life forever! He is the hero in a story of kindness and generosity.

Hitchhiking is the only way that some people get around.

As a kid, my dad and his mom (my grandma) would hitchhike whenever they wanted to do anything in town. Growing up poor, they didn’t have a car and had to figure out ways to get where they wanted to go. This is a hard reality for some. Regardless of the weather, they brave the elements each day to get where they need to go.

Kim was walking along the road in a light jacket when it was 19 degrees out.

Brandon was driving one day when he saw a woman walking down the road with a thumb out, a telltale sign that she needed a ride. Having never picked up someone he didn’t know, Brandon almost drove off.

“I ain’t never picked nobody up off the side of the road before.”

Thankfully, he had a moment of compassion when he realized it was 19 degrees out, and she was wearing only a light jacket.

Upon picking her up, he got to know a bit about the woman.

As she got into the car, they struck up a conversation as Brandon took her to her destination. Kim worked at Wendy’s and was walking there because her car broke down. She wasn’t in a spot to fix it due to a lack of funds.

She would wake up every day a few hours early and begin her walk to work. On the way there and back, she would stick her thumb out, hoping that someone would be kind enough to pick her up.

I’m just glad you didn’t kill me,” he chuckled and the two went their separate ways.

After arriving home, Brandon posted her story for his friends to see.

After one of his friends saw the post, he reached out to Brandon and encouraged him to raise some money for an Uber gift card for the woman! The spark had officially hit the fuel, and things got moving!

After starting the small fund, Brandon was overwhelmed with people’s generosity towards Kim!

Driving back to the Wendy’s where Kim worked, Brandon knew he was about to make this woman’s day. He pulled up and walked in, surprising Kim!

Kim was stunned speechless as Brandon came back through the doors!

Brandon said in an interview:

“We got you a gift card to Uber right there for $100.” All Kim could say was “Thank you!” But Brandon was bearing more gifts for her. “And then I know that you said your car costs $200 to fix. Here’s the $200 for the transmission… and then, here’s another $200 in case, you know, anything else comes up.”

Kim teared up as the generosity of a stranger overwhelmed her.

There is something beautiful about this story and the heart behind it. Brandon and Kim can have a round of Frosty’s on me if ever in the same Wendy’s together.
