Homeless man walks up bartender with $2 in his hand
Being homeless usually means you have to go without, including shelter, a place to sleep, and food. Fortunately, there are kind individuals in the world who take it upon themselves to show the less fortunate a little bit of compassion, even if it is for one meal.
So, when a homeless man showed up at Huey’s in Memphis, Tennessee, bartender Tucker Beck knew just what to do.
Homeless and living on the street
As customer Dawn Wilt sat eating her meal at the popular local restaurant, she noticed an exchange between a homeless man and the man behind the bar. The homeless man had entered the restaurant and been politely asking for spare change. He was able to gather together $2, hardly enough for a meal.
Asking for a meal
Gathering his courage, the hungry man approached Beck as he worked behind the counter. As he walked up, Beck gave him a warm smile and asked what he could get him. The man put down the $2 he had collected and asked what it could get him.
The kindness of a stranger
The homeless man probably didn’t expect much, as $2 is not a lot of money by today’s standards. But, Beck, without even batting an eye, asked him if he wanted a burger with some fries or onion rings. The homeless man was beyond words. This was way more than he expected.
All he could utter was a kind, “God Bless you,” as Beck turned to place his order.
The homeless man got more than he bargained for
As the food came out, it was way more than the homeless man expected. In addition to the promised food, the bag Beck handed him was stuffed with food. The man’s face lit up and he thanked Beck profusely. He left Huey’s that day with more than enough food to fill him up.
“It was a magical thing for him — I think it was just a normal day at Huey’s for us though,” Beck told Local 24 when asked about his kind gesture.

After witnessing Beck’s compassion toward his fellow man, Wilt couldn’t help but snap a picture. She shared the photo with a caption on her Facebook page, thanking Beck for his kindness.
Beck is known for his kind nature and has helped the less fortunate before. He helped feed a homeless woman who was living in a bus shelter across from Huey’s, taking her a cold drink and a burger every day one summer.
