Homeless man throws birthday party for his dogs unaware it would lead them to a better life
Homeless people possess nothing more than their personal belongings. But that doesn’t stop them from giving, especially for the only family they have left – their dogs.
Take it from a man from Bucaramanga, Colombia named Choko José Luis Matos.
Kindness caught on camera.
January of this year, a video of him together with his dogs named Shaggy and Nena went viral.
The video started with him fixing what seemed to be a party hat on one of his dogs. Then seconds after, he took out a cake and opened it, then he put on some candles on it.
It became clear that they were about to celebrate a very special day when he started singing the birthday song very cheerfully.
When he finished singing, he lit up both candles and then blew right after greeting his dogs. Although they were celebrating it in the park, the man was still very happy. It’s actually safe to say that he’s contented with what they had that day.
It wasn’t a lot, but to him, it was enough.
A sweet human dad.
Even though they’re homeless, Shaggy and Nena are still lucky dogs because they have a very loving dad like Choko.
The three of them shared what they had that night. It was pure kindness coming from a man who still managed to become a responsible pet owner despite having no financial wealth.
Imagine, he surely spent money on the party hats and on the cake. He could’ve just spent it on something more useful like food and other necessities. But he knew it was a special day for his dogs and he didn’t allow it to be just an ordinary one.
There was even one instance in the video when Choko became emotional. His tears suddenly came down rolling his cheeks. Although there’s no telling what’s the reason behind those tears, what we’re sure about is that he truly loves his dogs.
You’d know that he truly adores his doggos simply by the way he looks at them.

After capturing the precious moment, the person who’s been video recording Choko, Shaggy, and Nena decided to know them more.
As it turns out, Choko escaped from his abusive family and he’s been homeless since then. Despite having nothing but his dogs, he made sure they get all the love in the world.
After knowing more about their back story, the person who took the video also offered to help them. The video was also uploaded on social media and it touched a lot of people’s hearts.

Soon after, blessings came pouring into them. They started receiving all sorts of donations from the kindhearted people who saw the touching video online.
Bits by bits, all the donations helped them to be back on their feet. It sure made a huge impact on them, particularly in getting themselves out in the streets.
The park where the video was taken also became a gathering place for other animal lovers. Because of the viral video, Choko, Shaggy, and Nena also turned into instant celebrities when people started asking to take photos with them.
A brand new start.

Apart from being social media stars, they also had someone who gifted him with a new phone. Choko wasted no time and used the device to create an Instagram page where he gives people updates about him and his dogs.
In fact, as of this writing, his social media account already amassed 185,000 followers!
In one instance during his Instagram live, Choko shared that he was originally from the municipality of El Peñón. He also said that in the viral video, they were celebrating Shaggy’s 4th birthday.
The kind animal lover also shared that he dreams of pursuing music and giving back by building his own animal shelter.

Based on his Instagram posts, it looks like things are starting to shape up for Choko, Shaggy, and Nena. The trio is now staying in a decent place and enjoying good food daily. They also started selling shirts and donating a portion of the profit to help fight abuse towards animals, particularly dogs like Shaggy and Nena.
“In so many years living on the street I was never alone. My dogs were always there to bring joy to many sad days and now together we are going to help many who need us!” he shared.
It’s true that those who have few give more.
