Homeless Marine veteran wins over 7 million hearts with exceptional piano playing
When walking through the city streets it’s no surprise to see a few homeless people. All of them have a story if it’s getting laid off, struggling with drug addiction, or mental health issues. They are people just like us who deserve a chance to pick up the pieces of their life. This remarkable story is one to open eyes… over 7 million to be exact.
In Sarasota Florida, there was a skinny bronze homeless man named Donald Gould.
Donald carries a secret talent that has captured hearts all over the world.
It all started with a piano, it was on the sidewalk used as an art project free for anyone to sit down and tap some keys. Donald sits down at this mural-covered piano and he begins to play what now looks like his piano. He owned the sidewalk with the beautiful notes his fingers played as a crowd of ears swarmed to hear the incredible music.
His magical ability to play had everyone wondering how he ended up on the streets?
Donald was a U.S. Marines veteran, he lost his wife to a morphine overdose and soon after lost the custody of his 3-year-old son. A heart-wrenching hardship Donald turned to drugs and began living on the streets for over 10 years. Now 51 years old Donald had once been a classically trained on the piano. He played the pianos to get some extra cash any kind soul would give to him and just simply to make other people happy.
Donald’s glorious talents had sidewalk goers in awe and also recording him play the keys like no other.
When one day Donald was playing the song “Come Sail Away” on the sidewalk piano and a random man recorded him and posted it on YouTube.
That is when Donald Gould’s life changed forever. He became an overnight sensation and he couldn’t even believe it. The video enchanted audiences all over the world now, not just the city sidewalks. That is when he met Jaqueline Bevan from the Sarasota Minister Group. She became his life coach to guide him to a better life even reconnecting him with his son! An anonymous group even made Donald a GoFundMe page which raised an astonishing $40,000.
The beginning of Donald Gould’s second chance at life had begun.
People were contacting him all over to play gigs, he even got invited to play the National Anthem for the San Fransisco 49ers. Now in front of an audience of 75,000 people, Donald’s sidewalk audience has exploded too much more. Donald scored a record deal with Broadcast Networks, which has released 2 albums since being discovered in 2016.
He has since then waved the sidewalk days goodbye and has turned his life completely around.
Donald Gould’s second chance at life is a lesson to all that anyone can start over. In the blink of an eye, he was flipped right off the streets and playing for arenas to hear his impeccable talents. The heart-warming story just goes to show the power of kindness. If we just listen we can understand we’re not any different than the person next to us.
