Homeless puppy wags her tail at each passerby trying to attract attention

This is the journey of Lek Lek.

Elephant News is an online environmental news network and a team visited Sri Lanka for a research trip in a city called Nuwara Eliya, where they stumbled upon a stray puppy. The place is also called “Little England” known for its cool climate and picturesque landscape.

There was a puppy who would wag her tail and come after the strangers in the market, eager to attract attention. Sadly, passersby would only ignore her despite being at risk outside.

The researchers’ team paused to tap her for a while, but they are also in a hurry. Lek Lek followed them again and again until they took her up and returned her to where they first saw her.

Lek Lek continues to pursue the group.

Thereafter the team brought her back, she kept following them around until her perseverance impressed the group. They started to ask people to take care of Lek Lek but they would decline when they knew the dog was a female.

The team was grateful to their driver, Thushara, to look after Lek Lek.

The group brought her with them to the hotel and let her sleep. It was likely Lek Lek’s first cozy experience.

Lek Lek is a sweet puppy. Her coat is a combination of caramel and coffee brown that suits her gentle eyes to perfection.

She is confident when the man lifted her. They take her into the van and wrap her in a blanket to keep her warm. She is now relaxed and safe.

Her new friends cleaned and washed her. They put her on a bed as they dry her with a towel.

The group turned one of their suitcases into her bed with blankets to sleep in. She was trying to fix herself until she feels more comfortable and figures that she is taking care of and in good hands.

It has been two months since the remarkable day the team encountered Lek Lek. She is now a healthier, bigger, and very lively dog!

Two years later and this wandering puppy is now a healthy adult. Lek Lek met many friends, both canine and humans that she got all the love and affection she deserves amidst her past. She still lives with the people who adopted her and the group of researchers comes back to visit her occasionally.

Lek Lek recognizes the amazing people who shared their kindness. She is full of love and with a grateful heart to remember the inspiring team.
