Manager watches homeless woman on the security camera after she leaves her job interview

Kayallah Jones had no idea anyone could see her when she left a successful job interview and did a little happy dance in the parking lot.

Putting her best foot forward

Jones, like so many Americans, has been struggling with unemployment and homelessness for the last two years. And that’s only been exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic.

To even be able to go into an interview and put your best foot forward knowing you don’t have a home to return to is a success in itself.

But her fortunes changed on September 29 when she interviewed with Dakara Spence, manager of The Spot restaurant in Decatur, Georgia.

She nailed it and Spence said she saw something special in the applicant.

Making a good impression

For her part, Jones was just thrilled to have an interview. She brought all of her positive energy with her and the manager said as much to the local CBS news station:

“She had a great energy I felt it as soon as she walked in she seemed really positive.”

But things got even better after the interview. The manager saw her interviewee walk out into the parking lot and stop in her tracks.

Then she took a moment to celebrate – with a happy dance! And that’s when Spence offered to give Jones the job. She was charmed by the woman’s jubilance.

Spence told CBS,

“I called her phone and I said ‘I’m going to hire you’ and ‘I seen your happy dance so you can continue dancing.’ She was just screaming through the phone and it was just a beautiful moment for me.”

A viral sensation

The manager loved the moment so much that she posted the video of Jones dancing to her Instagram account, saying: “So I just hired this young girl and this was her response.”

Millions (over 1.4 million, to be exact) have watched the “happy dance” since it was posted on September 29th, 2020. And it is seriously adorable.

Jones is now a server at The Spot and no doubt people have come in specifically see and congratulate her.

“Ms. Dakara didn’t know but I was going through so much and at that point when she gave me this chance and this opportunity. I was elated, excited and so overwhelmed to the point where no one understood how happy and accomplished I felt at that moment,” said Jones of her new boss.

We truly can’t imagine, but it’s heartwarming to see someone take a step towards a better future for themselves.

The women have now been on TODAY and The Ellen Show to share their heartwarming story. And things got even better for the women when they were each awarded $15,000 from the talk show host!

They couldn’t pull out a happy dance on camera since they were too overwhelmed and broke down in tears.

But since then Jones has posted photos in her work uniform saying just how “blessed” she feels to be at work.
