Cameras capture homeless woman doing a happy dance after she nails her job interview
Finding a job isn’t easy. There aren’t a lot of opportunities these days. Businesses are closing and people are letting go of their employees. With the COVID-19 pandemic still around, a lot of people continue to struggle with unemployment.
Kallayah Jones’s life has been extra hard the last couple of years.
Apart from being unemployed, she was also homeless. She had lost a couple of jobs because of the pandemic.
On September 29, an interview changed her fate.
Kallayah went to The Spot, a restaurant in Decatur, Georgia. There, she was interviewed by Dakara Spence, the manager.
The woman made a really good impression.
Dakara saw something special in her. In fact, as soon as she walked in, she already thought that Kallayah had great energy.
The manager’s impression of Kallayah turned out to be true.
Right after the interview, she saw her walk out in the parking lot. There, she stopped for a few seconds to looked around. When she was sure that nobody was nearby, she started doing a happy dance.
Kallayah was just so happy to be interviewed.
She couldn’t contain her happiness. She just had to celebrate it with a dance!
When Dakara saw what Kayallah did, she knew she was the right person for the job.
She was charming and full of positive energy. Her positivity was contagious.
Right then and there, Dakara called the applicant. She said:
“I called her phone and I said ‘I’m going to hire you’ and ‘I seen your happy dance so you can continue dancing.’ She was just screaming through the phone and it was just a beautiful moment for me.”
Kallayah was officially employed.
It was a life-changing moment for her. It gave her more reasons to hope and work hard.
She shared:
“Ms. Dakara didn’t know but I was going through so much and at that point when she gave me this chance and this opportunity. I was elated, excited and so overwhelmed to the point where no one understood how happy and accomplished I felt at that moment.”
The manager posted the footage online.
It now has more than 1.4 million views. Apart from that, the pair also received interview invitations. They appeared on the Today Show and even The Ellen Degeneres Show.
For sure, with so many views, it’s not surprising if Kallayah got real people congratulating her at work. With everything she went through, she clearly deserves it.
Kallayah’s outlook in life is something we need these days.
Things are extra hard for people all around the world. Families can’t see each other as often as they like. Healthcare workers are experiencing burnout and exhaustion. People are losing their jobs.
It’s nice to read stories like this once in a while. It warms the heart and makes people hopeful. And like Kallayah, we should try to celebrate every win. Whether it’s big or small, we should celebrate it with or without a happy dance.
