Doctors and nurses sing ‘Amazing Grace’ as toddler wheeled down hall to donate organs

Coralynn was supposed to have her whole life ahead of her, but it was tragically cut short by a terrible disease. Every child deserves to have a happy, long and fulfilled life, but little Coralynn wasn’t so lucky. Heartfelt and emotional footage of the baby girl’s last moments was shared by her mom Meagan Sobolik, and it’s absolutely tear-jerking.

As a final goodbye, the hospital staff all sing ‘Amazing Grace’ to the baby, who is about enter the operating room to donate her organs.

The parents never excepted that their baby girl, only 22 months old, would end up in the hospital – let alone for something so serious. Six days before she tragically passed, Coralynn got infected by an unidentified virus. The virus caused plenty of difficulties and issues for the baby.

When Coralynn (Cora for short) couldn’t breathe properly anymore, that’s when the parents decided to go to the hospital for a severe check-up.

Cora’s stay at the hospital didn’t go without its complications – the poor girl suffered from three cardiac arrests.

It didn’t look good, at all. The girl was severely struggling and doctors had to declare her brain dead after five days. The official diagnosis is a parainfluenza infection, which couldn’t be treated properly resulting in these terrible effects. The doctors tried what they could – but it was already too late.

The whole thing especially went south when the doctors requested a transfer to a more specialized hospital, the Mayo Clinic Hospital in Rochester. Due to her health, Cora needed to be sedated, but that’s when her heart gave out.

At that moment, they immediately performed CPR. After half an hour, the little girl was finally stabilized – much to the relief of her parents and grandparents. However, it wasn’t all good news. Even though her heart was still going strong, she suffered from severe brain damage due to a lack of blood flow.

“I dropped to my knees and cried and kept saying, ‘No, no, no, God, no.’ I then felt numb and felt empty,” mom recalls.

Her parents decided that it would be the best choice to donate her organs, as she could save three other lives with her last breath.

They made sure that there was no chance of recovery with a CAT-scan but to no avail. Cora simply couldn’t be saved anymore and was taken off life support.

“There is now no chance of our little girl recovering but she is still with us and is in the process of organ donation. She became an angel today but tomorrow morning or tomorrow afternoon she will go into surgery and become a superhero and give the wonderful gift of life to up to eight different people that are in desperate need of these organs. We have tonight to be with Cora and will give her the most love we have ever given her yet,” mom posted on Facebook.

Terminal patients who are brought into surgery to donate their organs is something that is usually referred to as an Honor Walk or a Walk of Respect, but the hospital staff decided to give Cora’s another name. ‘Superhero Walk’ was more fitting, since she was a big fan of superheroes and everybody in the hospital thought that she was a superhero herself.

This Superhero Walk is absolutely emotional and heartbreaking as family, friends and the hospital staff all sing the beautiful song to a fallen angel.

The tear-jerking footage of the ceremony went viral with millions of views.

“I was speechless, and it was truly wonderful to see and feel so much love and support for our little girl”, mom recalls. “The doctor that took care of her came in on his day off to the be the first in line and also the last one to be with us when they shut the elevator doors to take her to surgery. The nursing staff was amazing to us … They gave us so much comfort and support while we were there, it was amazing.”

“It also adds comfort to me to see [Cora] again and confirm what we did was the right thing to do.”

Her organs saved the lives of three different people.

Cora’s heart is now beating again in a one-year-old boy, her liver was donated to a little girl in need and both of her kidneys were donated to a woman in her forties.

“She is going to be living on within three different people. She isn’t really gone, she lives on in her legacy.”

Above all, parents Meagan and Paul hope that their daughter can serve as a beacon of hope and inspiration for others.

“Our daughter was absolutely the world to us. She was such a happy little girl and always laughing — her laugh was infectious. Cora is our little superhero. And I believe is becoming an inspiration for millions of people and also helping to raise awareness for organ donation all over the world,” they said.
