Reddit, like all social platforms, saw an increase in activity in 2020.

At the time that people sought entertainment options amid the lockdowns. And reminiscing about old photos and the previous post were already popular.

Derek Schwendeman had no idea what he was getting himself into when he shared a picture of his grandfather on Reddit.

Now, millions of views later, his grandfather’s photo has gone viral, with Reddit users commenting on how attractive he is.

A soldier’s photograph goes viral.

The image is straightforward enough: a black-and-white photograph of a young man in military attire.

The man in the photo is 86-year-old Thomas, who was getting ready to embark on deployment in Korea.

Thomas’s bright smile and rugged good looks are what draw the most attention.

The image soon went viral, garnering over three million views and a slew of positive comments. Some Reddit users compared him to Tom Cruise, while others linked him to Gary Busey and Jay Bilas.

Some have even referred to him as “Hot Grandpa.”

Derek’s granddad was surprised by how enthusiastic everyone is over his 1952 photograph.

Fleecie Schwendeman, Derek’s grandma, has had the most fun with Thomas’s Internet fame.

“My grandmother says since they married young, he didn’t have much of a chance to ‘sow his wild oats.’

She told me that he has ‘women fussing over him all of the time, but she got him first.'” Derek told People.

Fleecie and Thomas tied the knot.

The couple, who now live in Pennsylvania, began their life together with an engagement in 1951, just as Thomas was about to go for basic training. After Thomas concluded his training, the couple married later that year.

Thomas received his orders to deploy to Korea while residing in an apartment in Texas.

After returning from his 1-year mission, Thomas took a job with the Bell Telephone Company. After 30 years, he retired and became a bus driver before retiring altogether in the mid-1990s.

Thomas is a dedicated husband and father.

“My grandfather is, and always was, a very hard-working man, and he passed that work ethic onto both my father and me,” Derek said.

The couple has been married for almost 65 years and has seen a lot. His granddad is a highly committed guy in life and his marriage.

This commitment has been handed down to their grandchildren.

His grandchildren are close-knit, they all reside nearby and pay frequent visits. Thomas would not change a single aspect of his life.

Derek recalls his grandmother asking Thomas if he would have lived his life differently if he knew how appealing he was to so many people.

Of course, his response was a resounding no.

“He was always loyal and has taken very good care of me,” Fleecie told her grandson.

What a priceless opportunity to spend time with your grandparents! You got to learn about their lives through their wonderful stories.
