Chef shares how to make tasty, eye-catching 'tornado' omelette
Eggs are such a versatile food. You can scramble them, cook them over easy or sunny-side-up, fry them…the list goes on.
And for whichever way you choose to make them, there is a very specific way to make sure they come out the very best they can be.
Omelets are one of the best things you can make with eggs. Omelets in themselves are so versatile. Once you scramble up your eggs a bit, you can stuff them with whatever you would like — peppers, onions, broccoli, mushrooms, spinach, cheese, sausage, bacon… The list goes on. Serve them up with a generous side of potatoes and toast and you have got yourself a very solid breakfast.
There are many other ways to cook an omelet as well. There is such thing as a Korean tornado omelet, which is essentially perfectly cooked up eggs that, when twirled in just the right way, literally look like a tornado.
Making a tornado omelet takes a lot of skill and practice. It all has to do with your technique and the temperature at which you cook the omelet.
A professional chef shared a tutorial on how to make the omelet yourself at home and it is fascinating.
After whisking up the eggs — making sure to get some air in there for optimal fluff — the chef pours the mixture into the pan, which is set to the perfect temperature for this particular technique. A smaller pan is best for this.
Then he actually uses chopsticks to help twirl the eggs into the perfect “tornado” shape.
What goes together better than eggs and fried rice? Nothing.
Once they reach a perfect consistency — still a little bit wet, not too overcooked — he then takes the omelet off the heat and puts it onto a perfect pile of fried rice.
After the eggs are nicely laid on top of the fried rice, the chef then whips up a sauce and neatly pours it on the plate, almost creating a kind of moat around the eggs and rice.
After adding a few final touches, the dish is served up to very happy and satisfied customers!
Making this dish is definitely not easy, as it is one of the more technical ways to cook up some eggs. It will undoubtedly take a lot of practice, however, it can be a really fun challenge to try for yourself at home! Worst case scenario is you get some eggs that don’t look like a tornado… Then you just simply try again.
The key to this technique is cooking at the right temperature and getting the timing just right. While eggs tend to cook quite fast, take your time and try to finesse them as best as possible.
Another pro tip: take the eggs off the heat sooner than you think you need to. You do not want them to be overcooked and eggs tend to keep cooking even after they are removed from the heat.
