How to make DIY cement flower pots with items at home
Nothing adds charm to a home quite like plants do. Whether itтАЩs a sprawling garden decked with lush trees and colorful flowers, a mini garden just outside of your door, or even corner and hanging plants arranged around the house, the place is automatically more pleasing in all senses with plants around.
ItтАЩs one thing to want to develop a green thumb and improve your home with touches of nature, but itтАЩs another to actually have the budget for it considering some gardening staples can be pretty expensive.
Take planters, for instance. They add so much aesthetic value but they also cost quite a lot.
Thankfully, creative minds have once more graced the internet with an easy tutorial, this time for a beautiful, DIY planter. No wonder this video garnered over 23 million views!
ItтАЩs doable, practical, and can really bring out skills you never knew you had.
You only need a few simple items for this project:
- A plastic basket
- Cement
- Tape
When choosing a plastic basket, use a pretty, patterned one you wonтАЩt tire of looking at, in a size that you feel would be perfect. Take your cue from the basket in the video – large, simple, and visually pleasing. Once you have your basket, take some tape to cover the outside of the basket with, as if to create a barrier. Then, use oil to coat the inside of your basket. This will make it easy for your finished product to slip out of the mold.
If this is your first time mixing cement, youтАЩll enjoy the process for sure!
Brings you back to elementary school, science projects, and just mixing concoctions outdoors, doesnтАЩt it?
The first step is to apply a thin coat of wet cement inside of the basket. Then, create a thicker mixture by combining one part cement with one part sand, and water. Use the thicker mixture for the inside of the bowl, then smooth it out with a curved spatula. Then, even it out with a knife or any sharp tool. Clean up the edges with a damp sponge or a little water as shown in the video. Using a sharp tool, create a small hole on the bottom of the planter so water can drain from the soil.
It takes approximately 24 hours for the cement to dry completely.
DonтАЩt grow impatient! Take that time to pick out some nice plants or look up more fun DIY projects for your garden.
Ready to see the finished product? Turn the bowl upside down and wait for the final product to slip out of the mold.
Now you can decorate it however you want!
DoesnтАЩt that look easy? You can even get the kids involved! No more cabin fever when youтАЩve got something fun to work on outdoors. Talk about a great gift idea for your loved ones or an item you can market. ItтАЩs also a good boredom buster for both grownups and kids. The possibilities are pretty much endless when creativity is involved.
