Some performances make you really appreciate how amazing dance is as an art form. This is one of them.
The girls of the Mercer Island High School Drill Team really wanted to impress their fellow students at homecoming. So for months, they practiced and perfected a routine that was unlike anything any of the kids had seen before.
By the time of the homecoming, the girls were happy with the routine, but of course, they were nervous. So they filed out onto the stage and hoped that their routine would go as well as their latest rehearsals.
They all marched to the center of the school basketball court and then kept on marching on the spot.
Then they assumed an opening dance position. They held out their arms and linked them up with one another.
They then unlinked and all looked downwards.
The song Eye of the Tiger from the Rocky movies started playing. The dancers all slowly raised their arms to the beat then folded their extended arms inward.
They all kept on moving their arms in unison. Every girl had impeccable timing.
Then, when the song kicked in, the girls spread out, forming three lines.
The song switched to Power by Kanye West, and each line of the girls bent down and up one after another, making the moves look like a wave across the dancefloor.
Then they all performed the side splits, again in a wave-like manner.
After this, the girls sat up and lay down, still following the one-line-after-another movements.
Still lying down, the dancers all moved their arms and legs in waves. It was an incredibly hypnotic performance. And the flow was so smooth, they made the entire thing look easy.
Then the girls got on one knee and slid in alternating sides in their three lines.
Next, they lay back down again and moved their bodies like human kaleidoscopes to the beat. People were really appreciating the performance now and started cheering out.
The girls stood up again and the song switched to Bad Girls Need Love Too by The Toxic Avenger. Now the girls were hopping down onto the floor and up again at a rapid pace.
Then the girls all got up and formed one long line. They joined hands and kicked their legs into the air with the beat.
The song switched again to Sveglia by Crookers, and the girls linked arms and split into two lines. Then they danced into the center of the court, merging into one long line again.
This time, they each did one move after another, like a ripple flowing down the line.
Then they split off again, now forming four groups, which all danced to one corner of the court.
They danced in their corners to Hey Baby (Drop It To The Floor) by Pitbull, still showing precise timing despite their distances from one another.
Lastly, they reformed into one group to perform more synchronized moves. They danced off the court to Even If The Sky Is Falling Down by Jay Sean and a loud applause by the crowd.
The girls had really pulled off something special with this performance. Luckily, a recording of it made its way onto YouTube, where it has become a hit. To date, it has gained over 1.1 million views. It also has more than 16,000 likes and 400 comments. People have been saying things like this:
No one in the room would be forgetting that performance any time soon. All of the girls did their high school proud!
