Most kids love going to the zoo. And it’s not hard to understand why.

It’s filled with exotic animals that you have the opportunity to get up close to!

But sometimes, the animals can get a little too close to the kids.

In Ireland, Sean and his father, Rob, went out to the Dublin zoo to celebrate the holidays.

Sean is seven years old and has become obsessed with predators. But you can probably bet that he didn’t want to learn what it felt like to be their prey.

Sean was especially amazed by the tigers. Their enclosure was large, with plenty of room for the tigers to roam. Sean could see the tigers stalking about just like they would in their natural habitat.

Rob decided that he wanted his son to remember the moment forever. So he got out his phone and started recording. Little did he know that something completely unforgettable was about to happen, even if there were no footage.

The video begins with Sean smiling at his father. The tiger is in its enclosure in the distance.

But the animal is sneaking up to Sean at a steady pace. Sean turns around to see what’s happening, and the tiger stops in its tracks.

Sean turns back to face the camera again. The second that the tiger is out of Sean’s vision, it starts racing towards the boy.

In no time at all, the tiger is at the child.

Luckily, there’s an incredibly thick piece of protective glass between the boy and the tiger. But the tiger still leaps up, stretching his arms out. If he could, he would have ensnared the child in those arms.

The tiger doesn’t give up and scrapes at the window.

The boy turns around, terrified by what just happened.

Of course, thanks to the glass, the child was never in any danger. But the moment was still incredibly scary!

It’s fair to say that Sean wasn’t expecting to get that close to a predator. That will be quite a story to tell at school!

This just shows that you should be wary of tigers if you’re ever in an environment where they roam free.

Tiger attacks are rare but not as rare as you probably think.

In fact, it has been estimated that there have been at least 373,000 fatal tiger attacks on humans from 1800 to 2009. Of course, most of these attacks took place in South and Southeast Asia, so people reading this in the West are unlikely to become a tiger’s dinner any time soon. But still, that’s a shockingly high figure!

And even in the western world, there are still fatal tiger attacks.

In the USA alone, seven people died from tiger attacks between the years of 1998 and 2001. The most recent fatal tiger attack in a zoo in the USA happened on the 15th of April 2016 in Palm Beach Zoo in Florida.

So by all means, go to the zoo and have fun looking at the animals, but be smart and make sure that you don’t get too close to them!
