Regardless of what changes in your life; chances are you will always love your pet. Facing the end of your life more than likely will leave you wanting to see your beloved pet one more time to say a final goodbye. This makes what one loving husband did for his dying wife even sweeter.

Dying in the hospital

The man’s wife was in the hospital following invasive surgery. Unfortunately, the surgery did not have the desired results and the wife’s prospects did not look good. That is when she made a request of her husband. She wanted to see her beloved Australian shepherd one last time so that she could say goodbye.

Husband agrees to his wife’s dying wish

The man agreed to bring their 50-pound dog in to see her, but first, he had to figure out how to get the dog, named Bella, past the doctors, staff, and nurses working at the hospital. Returning home, he came upon an idea that might just work. He was able to fit Bella into a suitcase. Now, all he had to do was get her inside to his wife.

Sneaking Bella into the hospital

Amazingly, he was able to sneak Bella into the hospital. Taking her out of the suitcase, he placed Bella on the foot of his wife’s bed. Bella immediately crawled up to his wife, who was sleeping.

“The dog immediately started licking her, and quietly moaned, as if knowing that barking would definitely blow our cover,” he wrote in a Reddit post. “My wife hugged her for almost an hour, smiling the whole time. We were busted by one nurse who was so touched that she promised not to tell.”

Taking Bella home

After the visit was over, the husband put Bella back into the suitcase and quietly sneaked her back out of the hospital. Surprisingly, Bella never made any noise, a fact which the husband wrote about in his Reddit post:

“Unbelievably, she never whimpered, barked or whined. When I walked past the station nurses, I told them I was simply bringing items to make my wife more comfortable. ‘No problem,’ they said.”

Bella still misses her mom

Sadly, the man’s wife passed away only a few days after telling Bella goodbye one last time. The widowed husband later reported that Bella still gets excited when she sees the suitcase, thinking she is going to get to see her mom again.

“It breaks my heart, because I cannot properly communicate to her that her Mommy is gone,” he wrote.

The unbreakable bond between a dog and its owner

This story just goes to show the strong bond that develops between a pet and its owner. Fortunately, many hospitals are starting to recognize this bond and so are allowing dying pet owners to receive visits from their much-loved animals one last time while they are in the hospital.
