Husky was there when man couldn’t afford a car – now he gets an epic trip across 50 states
Have you ever just wanted to hop on a motorcycle and go? That was Michael Fiala’s plan when he set out on a road trip across all 50 US states. Although, unlike most motorcycle trips that solely involve people, this one is a story about a man and his dog.
It turns out, some canines are just as thirsty for adrenaline and new experiences as humans are.
That’s what Fiala found out when his beloved husky Sox jumped up onto the back of his motorcycle to join him on his trip. The dog saw how much fun the man was having riding around the neighborhood and couldn’t resist getting involved.
He leaped onto the back of the bike, held on tight, and that’s when it all began.
The two quickly became very close riding partners.
“People say, ‘I can’t believe you just jumped on the bike with the dog!’, and that’s, of course, not how you can go about doing it. If he wants to go for a ride he’ll run right up to the motorcycle and hop on,” Fiala told The Dodo.
Never once did Fiala force Sox to ride along.
The dog does it by choice, simply because he loves the excitement just as much as his owner does. Although, it did take a lot of practice for them to get prepared for their first real ride together.
“To get him comfortable with just sitting there, I would actually just shift the weight of the bike. I’d roll the bike up and down my driveway. Tons of little building blocks like that,” said Fiala.
Now, the two are off on a cross-country adventure together, and we have to say, the photos are pretty incredible. We can only imagine the number of looks they get from other vehicles as they’re cruising along.

Fiala had always wanted to visit all of the states on a motorcycle, but with Sox to take care of, the only way to do it was to bring the pup with him.
After years of practicing riding together in Hawaii, eventually, everything fell into place for their big trip.
“We were driving around in Hawaii for five years, but it had just been forever been on my bucket list to see all 50 states,” Fiala said.
“We ended up doing a trip all the way down south, going through Southern California, Arizona, New Mexico. I was like, ‘I have to do this in my life. It’s going to be such an incredible thing.'”
From oceans to mountains, to deserts, Fiala and Sox have seen it all.
They’ve both enjoyed every minute of the trip, but Sox especially likes the big open states like Nevada where there are no other vehicles. Fiala would let the pup run around the desert as much as he wanted during their riding breaks. He would go running so far off into the distance that he would basically just look like a little white dot on the horizon.
However, all Fiala had to do to get the pup to return was rev up the motorcycle. The dog would hear the rumbling of the engine and come sprinting back, ready to ride off to their next location.
“We’ve done 35 total states now. 26 national parks,” said Fiala.
Although, sometimes it is more about the journey than the destination.
The best part for Fiala has been sharing the experience with Sox.
“What started as a typical friendship evolved into something far from ordinary — a promise to myself to live my dreams, and a promise to Sox that he would be a part of all of them,” said Fiala.
They say a dog is man’s best friend, and in this case, it’s definitely true. Together, they have covered thousands of miles on their amazing adventure. Here’s to wishing them the best of luck as they continue on through the next 15 states.
