Ice cube lifehack will change your laundry routine for the better if you know how to use it

If there is one word that everyone just loves to hear, it has got to be “lifehack”. After all, saving some precious time or money with regular household items is something that nobody will ever say “no” to. Of course, thanks to the power of the internet, there is an absolute abundance of these lifehacks to find that would absolutely be a gamechanger in one way or another, but not all of them can live up to their expectations.

One of those tricks involves ice cubes and laundry, and it’s time to find out whether or not ice cubes are truly a lifesaver in the washing and ironing department.

Let’s just face it – there’s no one out there that really enjoys ironing. It takes quite a long time, it can get frustrating, and it’s just plain boring. If you don’t have a steamer, you’ll also need to make sure that the setting is correct for each piece of fabric, or it’ll result in ruining your clothes instead. And letting the iron rest for just a couple of seconds too long on your shirt will definitely end up in stains and burns.

It’s a common claim that throwing in ice cubes in the laundry will do most of the ironing work for you.

While this claim definitely sets the bar pretty high, it does make you wonder whether or not that mythical internet life hack is actually true. The answer is, unfortunately, not as simple as many would hope. Throwing in ice cubes in your laundry does, in fact, help out with the wrinkles, but only under certain conditions. It also won’t be able to beat a regular iron, but when it does work, the difference with and without the ice cubes is definitely significant.

How does throwing in ice cubes ease the wrinkles, you might think.

The concept is actually pretty simple. Eventually, the ice cubes will melt and turn to steam, which in turn smoothes out the fabric of wrinkles.

However, while this is an absolutely great idea on paper, it’s important to keep a note of the conditions for it to work. For starters, throwing in ice cubes will only make a noticeable difference if the washing load isn’t big. Definitely don’t throw in ice cubes in a full machine, because that likely won’t have much of an effect.

Furthermore, the ice cube trick is also only applicable to certain types of fabric. Heavier clothing, such as jackets, denim, or even sheets, won’t benefit much from the ice cube life hack.

Throw in some cotton clothing, however, and you’ll end up with a lot fewer wrinkles than you usually would.

Of course, the result isn’t perfect. If you want precision and efficacy, an iron or a specialized steam closet is still the way to go. However, if you don’t care about perfectly ironed clothes and just want a relatively wrinkle-free t-shirt or shirt, the ice cube method could change up your laundry routine for the better.

The ice cube laundry hack definitely holds up in some cases, but it’s not a complete miracle either.

Either way, people will always be on the lookout to ease up their daily chores and household tasks with lifehacks. Ironing and washing are two things that aren’t particularly exciting, so we wouldn’t be surprised to find some other new interesting life hack pop up on the internet. Some newer washing machines also have a steaming feature built-in, and as we’ve mentioned above, steam closets could also help alleviate your boring ironing tasks.

Another popular lifehack related to laundry is the use of homemade dryer sheets. Armed with sponges and fabric softener, you can easily make your own DIY versions to make sure that your laundry will be static-free and smell amazing at the same time. There are plenty of tutorials available on the internet and YouTube that will perfectly illustrate this. Another option is throwing in an aluminum ball as a DIY dry sheet. While that won’t exactly give your clothes that nice smell, it will prevent your clothes from getting static.

Going back to the ice cubes, we can definitely conclude that these can change up your laundry life for the better – but only if you don’t mind some small wrinkles. You should also only use this trick for lighter pieces of clothing and smaller washing loads. You can check out a small demonstration video below.
