Ice skating duo lights up the rink with daring performance to Disturbed’s ‘Sound of Silence’
Simon and Garfunkel’s “The Sound of Silence” is one of their most iconic songs.
The song has a deep and inspiring meaning and is meant to be interpreted in many ways.
People have sung different renditions of the song, but the depth of meaning remains. A classic that never faded to nothingness.
One famous rendition is from the rock band Disturbed.
The band had permission from the legendary duo to cover their song, and their version did not disappoint.
David Draiman’s voice glided beautifully with the soft piano and guitar.
You’ll be surprised when you hear their arrangement, and even this has been used and interpreted many times.
French skaters Vanessa James and Morgan Ciprés danced to this version in one of their iconic routines.
The duo performed a remarkable ice-skating routine to Disturbed’s version of “Sound of Silence” in the ISU World Team Trophy in Figure Skating at the ‘Yoyogi National Gymnasium’ in Tokyo, Japan.
You can see focus and determination during their starting pose facing the ice.
When the first few notes started, they locked arms and took a few turns before gliding across the ice.
Donning an all-black outfit, the two moved beautifully with David Draiman’s harrowing voice.
The duo immediately impressed the audience when Morgan dipped Vanessa so close to the ice.
We could all agree that it was so mesmerizing, at the same time nerve-wracking, to watch.
They effortlessly got back to position and skated in unison, their movements flowing gracefully across the ice.
Then, Morgan lifted Vanessa then tossed her into the air for a quadruple turn!
The rink’s silence hinted that people were holding their breaths, but thundering applause came after that as Morgan caught Vanessa smoothly – like it was nothing.
Another impressive part of the performance was their consecutive axles.
The duo first jumped a double axle followed by two single axles, and their landing was perfect.
They skated around the ice again, but you could tell that they were preparing for a complex move as Morgan held Vanessa’s waist behind her.
And they did! Morgan suddenly tossed Vanessa across the ice.
They also landed that perfectly, and you could tell the audience enjoyed it very much.
And as if that wasn’t enough, they went on doing lifts with Vanessa shifting positions until Morgan could balance her with just one hand.
It’s incredible how they made it look so easy!
The French duo went about their performance with more impressive stunts.
They did some Biellman spins and even transitioned from camel to sit spin.
They did more lifts and tosses, and the landing was impeccable every time.
But the most impressive of all is doing the death spiral.
All that showed how much they trusted each other, especially Vanessa.
It’s not easy to be lifted and thrown about like that throughout the performance and place all your trust in your dance partner that they will catch you.
It was breathtaking to watch these two, and we can’t get enough of it!
