Dogs always want to be included.

It’s part of the pack mentality that carried over from their wolf ancestors. Whatever your doing, your dog will want to be a part of it. It doesn’t matter if you’re watching Netflix, baking cookies, or going on a jog, your dog is always beside you, wagging her tail and participating in your daily shenanigans.

Sometimes, dogs take being left behind as a personal offense. They want to be included and do not understand why they are being kept away from your activities. They all deal with their angst differently. Some dogs pace, others dig, some even get naughty and tear up their bed.

One dog had the most hilarious coping method for being left behind. Meet Fern…her method is the most effective.

Roughly five years ago, the 18-month-old puppy went viral for her sassy behavior.

Fern and her owners Graham and Fiona Haddow had brought Fern along for a shopping trip and she was having a blast. She was enjoying her all-day-adventure out of the house until her parents had to enter an art gallery where she wasn’t allowed.

Fern was left behind in the car while her parents entered the Dundee, Scottland, gallery and she knew she had to make her displeasure known. How to do it though? Fern was just a dog and she couldn’t speak words to tell her parents how annoyed she was at being left behind.

Looking around the car, she wondered what tools she could use to express herself.

Her eyes landed on the steering wheel.

Perfect.

Fern moved up to the front seat and slowly lifted her right paw until it landed on the center of the steering wheel. And then she pressed. HONK!!!

Fern honked the car’s horn for the next fifteen minutes.

Passers-by gathered around the car. They initially worried that the driver was facing a medical emergency and was in need of assistance. Much to their shock and joy, they were greeted by a disgruntled dog in the front seat. They immediately started filming the odd sight on their cell-phones.

“I came out of the gallery and looked down the street about a hundred yards away and saw a crowd gathered around a car and heard a honking sound,” recalled Graham.

“Then I did a double-take and realized that it was my car, and I wondered if it was anything to do with the dog.”

Graham rushed to the car, fearing that something terrible had happened to Fern. When he arrived, he was greeted by an unusual sight.

“She was sitting there, casually honking the horn.”

Fern apparently decided that honking the horn wasn’t enough. Instead of excitedly greeting Graham as was usual, she gave him the side-eye and kept honking the horn.

The footage immediately went viral. People found the boxer’s tiny tantrum and sassy attitude hilarious.
