Intruder breaks into house but doesn’t anticipate family’s Great Dane would step in
When a stranger walked into Tracy McCoy’s home, she quickly learned the perks of having a 120+ pound dog as a roommate.
Tracy McCoy lives with her blind son and their two dogs.
The larger of her dogs is Dubai, a Great Dane.
Their home has a garden and a little pathway leading to the front door. I guess that might have been the extra space her dog needed.
With his should height of nearly 4 feet and weighing over 120 pounds, he’s pretty much the size of a human.
Great Danes certainly live up to their name. Explains why the Mystery Gang has a particularly reliable and funny Great Dane as part of their family.
On the day that the intruder came into Tracy’s home, Dubai was by the doorway.
Great Danes may be big, but they’re not exactly the most street smart or perceptive of breeds. Unlike German Shepherds and Rottweilers, they’re a bit more lenient with strangers.
The very man who broke in even gave Dubai a quick pet, seemingly to try and cover himself. You gotta hand it to the guy, it takes some confidence to intrude someone’s home and pet their 100+ pound dog.
I bet he thought he could’ve gotten away with it too.
It’s not until Tracy comes out and sees the intruder that Dubai figures it out. She screamed, and Dubai sprung into protective mode. He started a barrage of relentless snapping and barking, chasing the guy out the door. Just before, Dubai was sniffing the man even as he was petting him.
Maybe Great Danes are smart enough to give some benefit of doubt?
The whole scene was caught on their CCTV video. While Dubai packs a lot of the muscle, his little Chihuahua friend was just as helpful. The Chihuahua bites and gnaws at the man’s ankles, and doesn’t seem to have gotten as much credit.
After the CCTV footage was uploaded to YouTube, a whole lot of comments found something oddly humorous about the two dogs. One commenter likened Dubai’s abrupt offensive act to the NPCs in Elder Scrolls games, like Skyrim. The games are notorious for NPCs who act docile one second, and then spring to attack you the next while shouting threats.
Never should have come here!
As for the Chihuahua, I guess he was going for the Dark Souls approach. Run circles around the big dude and then nip and chip at his ankles before he can hit you. Nonetheless, their tactics worked and Tracy was safe, albeit shaken a bit too.
Tracy later talked about how the encounter gave a long-lasting scare. Now she won’t be nearly as comfortable leaving the door by the front yard open, especially with a blind son who can’t defend himself.
Let’s hope Tracy never has to experience something like this again. And if she does, at least Dubai’s got her back.
Not many people are willing to go toe to toe with a 120+ pound dog. I hope Dubai and the Chihuahua got all the treats they wanted that day. They darn well deserved it.
