We could all do with a vacation. It’s been quite the year! The ideal vacation spot would be somewhere calm, green, and relaxing. The Irish countryside, perhaps?

Jack lives in Mullinahone, Ireland, and embarked on a project that would have made his grandfather proud. The project in question was the complete renovation of a 200-year-old cottage originally owned by his aforementioned grandfather.

Jack’s grandpa bought the cabin in 1959 when he was 29!

Jack’s dad remembers the cottage very well – it’s where he grew up!

“So, my father, his parents, and his five brothers and sisters grew up in this two-bedroom house,” Jack said in his video. “With no insulation and singled-glazed windows.”

His grandpa lived in the house until he passed away in 2010 at a hearty 89-years-old!

After his grandpa died, it fell into disarray, not getting any repairs or care for nearly a decade. During the beginning of the year, however, Jack felt inspired:

“Since then it’s being vacant and slowly deteriorating. At the beginning of this year, I decided to bring it back to life,” Jack told Newsflare.

Jack planned to renovate the cottage and use it as an Airbnb!

With those aspirations in mind, he got to work. He has a budget of 30k and needed to be selective with how he went about things! The final product shows just how worth it that investment was. Before that, however, they had some work to do.

Jack and his dad started the work themselves.

“My father and I began clearing it out and getting rid of anything that wasn’t needed. When the clearing out was finished it was time to start with the actual renovation,”

While working, he got an idea. What if they posted all their progress on social media? After the first few were uploaded to Instagram and TikTok, people really started to take an interest.

Soon, thousands were watching his daily work!

The success was almost immediate.

“It was around this time that I started documenting the journey on TikTok and Instagram. This video went viral and I got 45,000 followers in 24 hours. I have been documenting the whole journey in detail since and have really enjoyed interacting with people through these platforms,”

Slowly but surely, the cottage was revealed.

Stripping away ivy, clearing old concrete, and smashing windows, Jack started to get into the nitty-gritty of the home repair. Soon there was insulation in the roof, new windows, and fresh paint!

The project still isn’t done, but it’s super fun to follow along!

There is still a lot of work to do, but it is definitely coming together. They have installed a stove, new beams, and completely changed the outside of the house. So far, it has gone from an abandoned house to a trendy cottage. We can’t wait to see it when it’s done!
