When the holidays arrive, we all know that the winter season is officially here, too. It is a cozy season, but then again there are also a lot of adjustments that come with this part of the year.

Take your vehicles for example. The cold weather is too harsh at times, and the extremely low temperatures may take a toll on your car’s performance. At least, you get to use your car frequently even in the winter, which means you get to see it every now and then to check its performance each time as well.

But, what about vehicles that you don’t really use a lot in the winter season?

If you are fortunate enough to own a trailer van, a camper, or an RV, you are most likely preparing it to be kept closed for quite a long period. These types of vehicles are normally utilized during the summer or spring seasons, but they are not opened during the cold weather because there isn’t much place to camp anyway.

Your most practical choice for them this season is to close them and keep them in the garage at least until the cold season ends. But, if you think that closing your RV or camper is a walk in the park, then you have another thing coming.

Apparently, the winter season can also be the perfect time for pests to take shelter in abandoned places or sites where there is not much movement. One of these perfect hideaways are – you guessed it – your camper!

When you close up your vehicle for the winter, you might need to do more effort to keep the pests away and to make sure that your vehicle is still well-kept over its resting period.

Critters, for example, are notorious pests that can leave your camper stinky and dirty. Can you imagine opening up the vehicle you closed for months and being greeted by the stench? Ugh!

Setting traps for rodents is something you can try to keep the pests away, but one that is definitely not cruelty-free. Plus, of course, you must prepare yourself for the clean-up that follows once you’ve finally decided to open up your camper.

So, what other options do you have if setting traps is not a great idea and you simply can’t let rodents or critters stay in your camper for the winter? Well, one woman has a bright idea and it involves the much-loved Irish Spring soap.

Start by grating the soap bars and the next thing you have to do is simply sprinkle the shavings on different corners inside your camper or trailer van. And, that’s it.

Easy, right? It may be too plain or uncomplicated, but let me tell you that this method of repelling pests from your camper this winter is definitely effective. Critters simply hate the strong smell of this soap. As for mice, you may want to test it out before finally sorting to this method because there can be mice that are not as affected. In that case, you may need to try adding more soap shavings to your camper.

Now, that’s a really effortless way to prepare your camper for the winter season. It’s effortless, cruelty-free and not to mention very cheap!
