Bullied singer cover’s Adele’s ‘Hello’ on ‘The Voice’ – every judge turns their chair

Jack Vidgen is no stranger to Australian talent competition shows.

Before he auditioned on The Voice Australia, he had already been part of Australia’s Got Talent in 2011. In fact, he won that season. He became well-known in Australia after that and released an album under Sony Music titled “Yes, I Am.”

But then he disappeared from the spotlight. Nobody knew what happened to him.

It turns out he flew off to Los Angeles, California. The limelight, the fame, the pressure, and criticism got to him and he had to leave.

“I went over to Los Angeles and I went by myself,” Jack told news.com.au. “I was 16. I [had] left everyone behind me and I isolated myself… I cut people out of my life. I blocked out my family. I blocked out my friends. I was in this little bubble in LA and I think it was the only thing I really felt control over at that point. Everything blew up so much I was just like, ‘I need to get out of here, I’m going to LA’, and that was that.”

He left everyone and everything he knew to make it work in LA.

Unfortunately, it was disappointment after disappointment when he arrived in LA. And the reason he was there soon became the reason he wanted to give up. He fell out of love with music.

“Over the course of the year different things happened and I guess you get exposed to different things in the industry, and just being 16 that can be pretty heavy,” Jack shared. “It just got pretty heavy and it got to the point where I fell out of love with music. I wasn’t enjoying it anymore.”

He went back to Australia, back to his mum, his friends, and his old life.

He didn’t go back to the music industry. Instead, he focused on enjoying his life with the people he loved.

“I needed to discover myself and discover who I am and find my identity,” Jack said. “I studied, I worked in reception, after school care, aged care, worked in a deli, all sorts of things. I just needed something to humble me because I think I got maybe a little too confident.”

And now, he’s ready to make a musical comeback.

And he’s coming back with another powerhouse song for his blind auditions for The Voice Australia. This time around, he is singing Adele’s song “Hello.”

For Jack, singing “Hello” was not just about showcasing his powerful vocals. He had a deeper meaning in choosing this song.

“It’s kind of me saying ‘hello’ again to everyone, but also, it’s kind of ‘hello from the other side’ — it’s me saying that to myself as well,” Jack told 9Honey Celebrity. “I lost the love for music, I lost the joy that it brought me, and I got to a pretty dark place. It was pretty healing for me to get back on that stage and sing ‘hello from the other side’, kind of to myself in a way.”

And when he sang, he just let go and went back to what he loved: music.

It was very apparent during his blind auditions that Jack loved to sing. That was such a seasoned performance from a singer who hasn’t performed publicly in five years.
