Many people have covered Celine Dion and Andrea Bocelli’s The Prayer. But this live cover might just become the definitive version.
Fans of classical/opera music will know Jackie Evancho and Fernando Varela. They’re two incredibly talented singers.
Varela shot to fame as part of the musical trio Forte Tenors on America’s Got Talent.

Evancho also appeared on America’s Got Talent and released her first album at the age of just 10. She’s since become a multi-platinum selling musician.

In 2017, Fernando Varela hosted a PBS special. For the concert, he knew that he wanted to duet with someone who could complement his voice. He decided that the then 16-year-old Evancho was who it had to be.
Everyone was amazed when Evancho walked on stage.
The violinist started playing the opening notes to The Prayer. The pianist joined in.

Then Evancho opened with the lyrics, “I pray you’ll be our eyes and watch us where we go.”
Evancho’s voice combined with the violin and the piano perfectly.

Then Varela opened the second verse with the Italian version of the lyrics. His tenor voice was able to pack a huge emotional punch.
Soon, Evancho and Varela were alternating the lyrics at a flawless pace.

Then the two singers looked to each other to harmonize. Everyone in the audience must have been elevated by the singers’ combined voices.
When the song ended, the entire audience cheered and got to their feet. Clearly, this performance was the highlight of the concert.
Luckily, this performance then appeared on YouTube, where it has gone viral. To date, the video has gained over 1.1 million views. It also has more than 9,700 likes and 500 comments. People have been saying things like this:

If the singers could perform The Prayer so well, just imagine what they could do with other classics? Clearly, an album of Fernando Varela and Jackie Evancho duets would be incredibly successful!
The concert in the video was for Varela, but can any deny that Evancho stole the show? And what’s even more amazing is the fact that Evancho is half of Varela’s age.
However, both musicians have no shortage of talented people who want to work with them.

Evancho has also collaborated with the likes of Tony Bennett, Placido Domingo, Barbra Streisand, Chris Botti and Joshua Bell. Varela has performed with Lionel Richie, Josh Groban, The Beach Boys, Steven Tyler and many more.
The only downside to Evancho’s talent is that it will make some of us feel very old.
She wasn’t even alive in the 20th century!

At least Varela had the decency to become famous when he was in his 30s. That’s a joke, of course. Talent knows no age. It doesn’t matter if someone becomes renowned when they’re 10 or 100.
Hopefully, both of the singers in this video still have long, highly successful careers ahead of them. No one can deny that they’ve already gone far and deserved every accolade they’ve received.
