Jogger passing by home notices smoke and alerts the owners through their doorbell camera

When a fire broke out in a Scotts Valley home in California, there was no one inside the home to see the fire. Smoke began to accumulate in the home and it seemed like a matter of time before the fire would engulf the whole home.

A jogger who happened to pass the burning home saw what was happening and immediately went to the front door.

It was probably quite the scene to come across on your daily jog. Imagine going out to jog for some cardio work and seeing something that actually does make your heart race.

Well, he had to do something. No one was home and he needed some way to alert the homeowners.

With no one home, he had to speak into the doorbell camera and hope that it alerts someone somewhere.

His hunch proved right. A prerecorded message greeted him so he kept trying to get a hold of someone on the other end.

The clock was ticking and the flames weren’t getting any smaller.

Eventually, a woman answered on the other end of the doorbell camera and he was able to alert her about the fire.

“Hello. There’s smoke coming out of the top of your house.” the jogger alerted her

The homeowner was Courtney Polito, who became terrified when she saw the smoke from the camera.

“It was terrifying. When I answered the doorbell and saw the smoke, I panicked immediately.” she said

Now that she had a heads up from the jogger, she needed him to help. He was the only one who could.

Polito had several pets inside the home. They needed to move fast so she gave him the security code to go inside.

“The first thing that went through my mind was “Get my pets out of the house, please.” said Polito

He did just that. The jogger went in to save Polito’s cat, rabbit, and 2 Dachshunds.

It took 2 trips to save all of them, but he managed it. You’ve got to commend the jogger’s bravery for making it through the smoke and flames twice to save Polito’s animals.

Thankfully, the fire department arrived and took care of the fire.

Another 10 minutes and the house would have burned down, they said.

While the home was saved from burning down, it wasn’t totally unscathed.

The smoke and flames still ended up ruining some furniture and Christmas presents that the family had inside the home.

But you could call it a Christmas blessing that they were saved from a worse fate.

And it was all thanks to a compassionate, concerned stranger too.

“I was like, ‘I want to buy you dinner! I’ll buy you anything. I would give you my life if I could. You rescued my babies and you saved our house.” Polito said about the jogger

Now, Polito’s household can still live under a roof and enjoy many more Christmases in their home thanks to this man!

What an incredible and fearless person, don’t you think?
