Johnny Cash's mom's recipe for pineapple pie is absolutely to die for
We all have our favorite family recipes. And most of us have it either written down in a card, protected, or written down somewhere, or kept in our memory bank.
There is one recipe that, country music fans who love pie are grateful, was written down, protected, and now being shared. And there is a recipe that
It’s the pineapple pie recipe of Johnny Cash’s mother, Cassie Cloveree.
Most of the time, the mother passes the recipes down to their daughters, who pass them on to their daughters. And if they don’t have daughters, they pass the recipes on to their favorite daughter-in-law, who they can trust with the recipes.
In Cassie’s case, she didn’t have any daughters to hand over her recipes.
But she still shared her recipe book with the family. The recipe book was passed on to her nephew’s wife. And now it’s been published into a real cookbook called Favorite Recipes From Mama Cash’s Kitchen.
Luckily, for Johnny Cash fans, the book includes the pineapple pie recipe.
And it’s a very simple recipe. Even bakers with no experience can easily make this pie! The ingredients include food products you already have at home. And you can make it with a store-bought crust or homemade crust, it’s up to you.
Jennifer Schwarkopf, a home baker, created the pineapple pie to connect with her Southern roots.
She was so excited, especially since she’s a fan of Johnny Cash. That’s why when she was invited to bake the pineapple pie recipe from Johnny Cash’s mother, she was so in!
Because the recipe called for crushed pineapple, she cut back on the pineapple juice because it might make the crust too wet. And it was the right decision. It also lessened the sweetness of the pie.
This home baker also recommended using a hand mixer or whisk, if you want a good arm workout. Otherwise, a stand mixer will do.
Jennifer was glad that the pie had set beautifully when it finished baking. When she took a bite, it was sweet but not sickeningly sweet. It’s still good to still pair with a cup of coffee or tea.
And Jennifer said it’s a great afternoon pick-me-up snack. Want to try it now?
This is a great recipe to try for any pineapple pie fan. And it’s an even better recipe to bake for any Johnny Cash fan.
Picture your musical idol with his family by his side when you take a bite of this pie. Maybe they’re looking back over the week, sharing stories, thoughts, and advice with each other.
Maybe you’ll do the same with your family while you enjoy this pie with a cup of coffee or tea or a glass of milk.
And that’s what this pineapple pie symbolizes.
It inspires quality time with family or friends. It creates happy memories to be cherished for a long time.
