Journalist stops her report to save a horse trapped in a wildfire
Wildfires are quite common in Southern California. However, even though they happen a lot, it doesn’t make them less dangerous. In fact, wildfires can be devastating to both humans and animals.
In 2017, dangerous wildfires started ravaging Southern California.
As the fire blazed across the region, people and animals were forced to run away as fast as they could. They had to be quick or else, they’d get stuck in the fire and get themselves seriously hurt.
While most people were able to escape and find a safer location to stay, one horse got trapped.
The 23-year-old horse named Kenny tried running away from his stable. Unfortunately, he tripped while making his way out.
The horse was unable to move.
He was stuck in a crevice along his stable’s wall. All of his attempts to free himself failed. He couldn’t even stand up!
Luck was on Kenny’s side that day.
Gina Silva, a journalist, noticed a pair of horse’s teeth from a stable’s hole. Right after seeing him, she knew she had to do something fast.
Gina was very determined to free the trapped horse.
She went to get her team to help move Kenny. Unfortunately, they weren’t strong enough to free the animal.
They needed help.
The firefighters were the best people for the job. They have the skills and the tools for the situation.
However, with the wildfire destroying properties and posing threats to everyone’s safety, Gina had to come up with another idea. This time, she turned to social media.
Even though she knew that asking people on the internet for help was a long shot, she still did it. After all, most of the people in the area had already escaped.
On her Twitter account, Gina posted:
“Horse needs help! Stuck in a tiny gap. Fell running away from fire in Sylmar.”
Then, like magic, people started coming to help free the poor horse.
The rescuers had to knock down the wall that trapped him. And for his safety, a vet gave him a shot of tranquilizer to calm him down.
Everyone did their best to free Kenny.
And with everyone’s hard work, they were able to get him out of the crevice and took him somewhere safer. Kenny didn’t fall victim to the ravaging fire and that’s thanks to Gina and the team of impromptu rescuers who didn’t give up on him. The fire took 30 horses that day.
The old horse recovered well.
Even though he experienced something traumatic, he was able to return to his old self. He started eating and he’s doing so much better.
Gina’s kindness didn’t go unnoticed.
Apart from the people who praised her good work, she also received a thank you note from Kenny’s humans. They were able to express their gratitude to the journalist after they were able to safely go back home. Because of the fire, they had to leave their property in a hurry. They had no time to take the horses with them.
