Just Pizza partners with the Niagara SPCA to help get shelter dogs adopted
Pizza is one of the most popular foods in the U.S., beating out steak, tacos, and pasta by a wide margin. One pizza place is using this popularity to drive dog adoptions at its local Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA). Best of all, the promotion has had some spectacular results.
Just Pizza wants to help get dogs adopted
Just Pizza & Wing Co. in Amherst, New York has partnered with the Niagara SPCA to promote the adoption of some of the dogs found at the SPCA’s shelter. The promotion came about when Just Pizza’s owner Mary Alloy was inspired by the work done at the SPCA and wanted to help advertise homeless dogs to her customers.
Working with the SPCA
Alloy did this by attaching flyers to the top of pizza boxes featuring adoptable dogs. Before this, she got together with the SPCA and got their permission, of course. They even announced the upcoming promotion on its Facebook page. Once that was taken care of, she worked with SPCA event coordinator Kimberly LaRussa to bring it all together.
The announcement of the promotion is well-received
The announcement post by the SPCA on Facebook got over 1,000 likes and shares, and a variety of comments from supportive fans. Both the shelter and the pizza shop were flooded with calls from interested adoptees.
“We’ve had a tremendous amount of interest and support from the community and beyond since the story went viral on Friday,” LaRussa told CNN. “Many people want to order a pizza just to get the shelter dog photo, other pizzerias have offered to put flyers on their pizza boxes, and so many people are tagging their friends and family.”
Similar promotions
This particular promotion follows closely on the heels of similar ad campaigns from breweries around the country, which featured adoptable dogs on beer cans. In addition to finding a forever home for the dogs at the shelter, Just Pizza is giving anyone who adopts a dog featured on a flyer a $50 certificate to be spent at the restaurant.
More about the Niagara SPCA
The Niagara SPCA is located in Niagara Falls, New York and is a no-kill animal shelter. Founded in 1864, the organization has plans to expand its adoption hours to account for the increased demand. The promotion expands
The promotion was so popular that two of the dogs to be featured on flyers were adopted before the flyers could even be printed! Now, the company plans on placing adoptable cats on flyers too. T-shirts featuring adoptable animals are in the works and other pizza places across the country are jumping on board with adoptable animal promotions of their own,
