K9 Dooly is, without a doubt, one of his department’s biggest stars.

The six-year-old Belgian Malinois with the Savannah Police Department is one of the best K9s around, having achieved the highest score of the USPCA certification in his region back in 2018. This past June, he also assisted his department in sniffing out more than one hundred pounds of cocaine resulting in multiple felony charges.

But whatever you do, don’t confuse Dooly for a German shepherd!

“It really hurts his feelings,” his handler joked.

Unfortunately, this past week, followers of the unit’s Facebook page were shocked to hear that their beloved K9 Dooly had been involved in a serious incident.

The Facebook post read:

“Approximately 20 minutes after bedtime, K9 Dooly’s handler heard a loud bark, growl, and sounds of Malinois destruction occurring, coming from K9 Dooly’s bedroom. His handler responded quickly and upon entering K9 Dooly’s bedroom, he found K9 Dooly lying in a pile of foam with the “Belgian Malinois Smile of hard work and good jobs” on his face.”

According to the report, when K9 Dooly was questioned, the dog responded only with kisses and head nuzzles.

While it is unclear what happened to the bed, the Savannah PD believes that it was simply not comfortable enough for K9 Dooly. “K9 Dooly forgot how awesome and strong he is and the bed just could not hold up to K9 Dooly’s ‘fluffing’ attempts,” the post explains.

According to the report, K9 Dooly was not harmed in the incident. Unfortunately, however, the bed did not survive.

It is still unclear whether the bed was the same K-9 Ballistics dog bed Dooly was gifted for his sixth birthday earlier this year.

Many of Dooly’s fans clapped back in the comment section of the post, showing their support for K9 Dooly.

“Dooly was clearly framed,” one comment reads. Another argued: “This is an open and shut case. K9 Dooly OBVIOUSLY scared off the perpetrator.” Still, others had more elaborate theories:

“K9 Dooly is innocent! It is clear that the bed was defective. Spontaneously exploded! K9 Dooly exhibited extreme bravery by staying at the scene of danger and not running away.”

No matter what really happened, the Savannah Police Department deserves a thumbs up for their humorous Facebook report!

As mentioned, K9 Dooly is a beloved member of the Savannah PD K9 unit, working alongside his handler Cpl. Benjamin Ferrero. In 2018, the dynamic pair competed in the United States Police Canine Association (USPCA) National Police Dog Trials for the Top Patrol Dog award. The USPCA certification is one of the hardest certifications for a K9 to acquire -but in April of 2018, Dooly scored 644 out of 700 possible points, which gave him the highest score out of all the dogs in his region.

“I am one of the luckiest people to have this dog,” said Ferrero.
