Excited police K-9 officer can't contain his joy during his swearing-in ceremony

Meet officer ghost, a K-9 officer at the Glynn County Police Department. Like many officers, Ghost had to go through some basic procedures to be an official working officer.

Though what makes K-9 officer Ghost the star of this story is how his swearing-in ceremony went.

A swearing-in ceremony is a very important thing. You start the ceremony as a mere trainee, and by the end of it, you’re officially an important member of the team. That’s a lot of responsibility to have bestowed on you, especially for a dog.

Most of us would be nervous during the occasion, but not Ghost. The dog doesn’t seem to have a care in the world.

Even when the chief officer gets everything ready, he has to politely tell Ghost to behave himself before they can get started. The dog wags his tail in excitement and has to be told to calm down.

Ghost’s handler, meanwhile, can’t hold back the giggles. Ghost, buddy, I know this is a big day for you, but you’ve got to behave! It’s only for today anyway. You can wag happily as much as you want when this is over.

“Not me, here!” the chief tells Ghost as the dog follows his hand. “Repeat after me, officer Ghost” he then says, hoping to get Ghost’s attention.

“I, Ghost, do solemnly swear….” he reads, while Ghost pays no attention. The dog would much rather sniff at the paper and lick the officer’s hand. He continues, “..or affirm that I will uphold the constitution of the United States. The constitution and statutes of the state of Georgia and the ordinances of the county of Glynn.” I doubt Ghost is paying attention to any of this.

His senior tries to keep reading out loud, before Ghost promptly stands up and gives him a big wet kiss on the cheek. Now everyone in the room can’t resist laughing a bit. That’s Ghost for you.

When the chief begins reading the section about honest and truthful use of funds by police, Ghost is now extra distracted. He keeps bringing his head up to kiss the chief, and even playfully swings his paws.

At least we know Ghost loves his coworkers. When you’re working this kind of job, having good relations with everyone can pay off. Plus, it makes the days at work much more pleasant. But let’s check back on how he’s doing with the swearing-in ceremony so far.

Well, Ghost seems to have just given up and is in “play time” mode now. He’s even bellying up and asking for belly rubs and pets.

Chief is just about to wrap it up, and Ghost is still convinced it’s playtime. It’s a good thing there’s no penalty on K-9 officers for not paying attention. He is still a puppy, to be fair.

Still, the chief has to make sure Ghost voluntarily agrees to the terms. Ghost has to bark in agreement to settle the ceremony, so the chief asks him, “Can you bark?”. Ghost instead just looks at him playfully without making a sound. “Can I what?” Ghost is probably thinking.

Well, the chief is going to make him an officer regardless. “Do a good job, alright?” he tells Ghost while petting the lovable Belgian Malinois.

I’m sure Ghost will do an incredible job as a K-9 officer. He’ll definitely have his partner, officer Garza’s back all the time.
