Hero police K9 locates abducted girl missing for months using her scent
K9 Police officers can do things their human counterparts simply cannot.
Their incredible sense of scent has proven valuable for various tasks associated with policing, including locating lost or abducted people.
A bloodhound from the Rutherford County Sherrif’s office is being hailed a hero for having recently located a missing girl.
6-year-old Kinzleigh Reeder had been abducted by her father, Nicholas Reeder, and authorities were concerned for her safety.

Hero K9 locates an abducted 6-year-old girl.
Authorities believed that the father had taken his daughter to a campsite in the Pea Ridge community.
This created a scenario where using a dog, such as a bloodhound, to locate the pair was ideal. The K9 unit was brought in which included a bloodhound named Fred.

K9 Officer Fred is a very good boy.
Fred is the name of a young K9 officer with the Rutherford County Sheriff’s office. The one-year-old bloodhound has already been on his share of missions.
Early in his policing career, Fred helped track down a missing 13-year-old boy who had run away from home. Since Fred had been so helpful in a previous case, officers were hopeful he could help locate the abducted girl as well.
Officers presented Fred with an item of clothing that belonged to Nicholas Reeder.
This allowed the bloodhound to pick up his scent. Fred then followed that scent from the man’s home into the Pea Ridge area where he was believed to be hiding out with his abducted daughter.

“They traveled to the home and released Fred who followed a foot path from the home to a burn pile, a truck and an outbuilding,” the sheriff’s office wrote on Facebook. “He sniffed the door and door knob, then sat down indicating he found the father.”
“We made entry into the building and discovered the suspect and child in the back of the shed behind blankets that were hanging from a makeshift clothesline,” said Sgt. James Holloway.

Nicholas Reeder was charged with child abuse and taken into custody. Fred also got to meet the girl he helped rescue.
“He licked her face and she gave him a big hug,” said K9 Deputy Richard Tidwell.
“I praised him and loved on him,” Tidwell said regarding Fred. “I pulled the chicken reward out of my pocket. He ate the chicken and wanted to meet other people as if to say, ‘Look what I’ve done.’”

Fred gets a much-deserved reward.
Excellent work deserves a fitting reward and that’s just what Fred was given. Normally, Fred is given some chicken to feast on but this time he was also given some celebratory pizza crusts as well.
“Tidwell said Fred gets a reward of chicken to feast on when he makes a successful find. This time he received an extra treat of pizza crusts,” the department wrote on Facebook.
