K9 solves missing toddler case in less than 10 minutes
For parents, their children’s safety is super important. This is why they do everything they can to ensure that their little ones are safe and healthy. Unfortunately, bad incidents happen.
A missing child was reported to the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office on a Tuesday.
The frantic parents tried looking for their precious child everywhere, but they failed to locate him. Knowing how critical time was, they decided to ask for the help of their local police and reported the incident to the Ohio sheriff.
Deputy Frank Bleigh didn’t waste any time and assigned the best detective for the case.
His choice was Bandit, their four-legged detective. K-9 Bandit and Deputy Bleigh started working right after receiving the report.
They started their search at the front of the family’s house. And right then and there, Bandit got familiar with the boy’s scent.
Within 10 minutes, the K-9 detective was able to locate the child a quarter mile from the family’s residence.
The Sheriff’s department couldn’t be more proud. In a statement, the sheriff shared:
“This is exactly why we have dog units, watching this track you could tell very well that Bandit had the scent of the child and was well on his way to finding him. I would like to thank Frank and Bandit for a job well done and it was so amazing to watch this unfold.”
They aren’t the only ones who are proud of what the K-9 detective was able to do. Everyone who has read about Bandit has nice things to say about him.
In fact, in the Shelby County Sherrif’s Office’s post, one person commented:
“Heartwarming outcome! Awesome job K9 Bandit and handler. So glad the child was found safe and so quickly. Thanks for your service from Texas!”
Another one said:
“Even though I know none of you Id like a big shout out to Deputy Bleigh and K-9 Bandit for a job well done.Thank you both for risking your life’s daily to protect ours.May god bless you both and those who serve with each and everyone of you.”
This isn’t the first missing child case solved by a detective K-9.
In Utah, a police dog was able to locate a missing child who was supposed to be sleeping with other kids in the basement. The child was with his family visiting relatives that day.
When the mother went to the basement to check on the kids, she wasn’t able to find his son. The family looked at every sleeping bag and searched the entire house but couldn’t find the little boy.
They asked the help of the local police who came with a search and rescue dog named Beau. After sniffing the child’s sleeping bag, he went searching and found the boy in a matter of seconds.
Bandit and Beau are just two of today’s hardworking search and rescue dogs.
K9s have to undergo very strict training, and experts suggest that SAR dogs should be trained while they are still puppies. This age makes it easier for trainers to control critical important behavioral aspects.
However, this doesn’t mean that adult dogs can’t be trained. They can also be considered as candidates as long as they are objectively evaluated by a professional dog trainer to ensure that they possess the proper temperament for the job.
