K9 proudly rescues puppies abandoned on dumping ground
When K9 Tek and his handler Trooper Jordan Enis went out to patrol a known stolen car dumping ground, they came upon a big surprise. Driving through the abandoned subdivision in southwest Atlanta, the pair came across three puppies dumped in a briar patch. Of course, K9 Tek and Trooper Enis were more than happy to help the little guys out.
The two saved the puppies from a horrible fate
Knowing no one would probably come for the puppies, Enis and Tek grabbed them and put them in their patrol car. Tek stayed right by their side to keep them company on the ride back to headquarters. Once they were ready, all of the puppies were promptly adopted into loving homes.
K9 Tek does more than patrol with his partner
But K9 Tek is more than just a patrol dog. In addition to his job on the roadways of Georgia, Tek also serves alongside trainer Ennis at the Georgia State Patrol Trooper School, where he helps train the newest cadets set to serve in departments all across the state.
A day with puppies is a good day
Unfortunately, whoever was responsible for leaving the three pups in the bush to die will probably never be found and brought to justice. For their part, the puppies have moved past this horrible start to their lives.
Thanks to Ennis and Tek, the three puppies were able to find their forever homes. And while puppy rescues are not the norm for the pair, the Georgia Department of Safety, for which they work, had this to say about the situation on its Facebook page:
“A Trooper never knows what he may encounter on a shift, but a day with puppies is a good day.”
The roles that police K9s fill
Just like K9 Tek, K9s across the country, and around the world, fill a vital role on the police departments in which they serve. Alongside their human handlers, these K9s serve and protect their communities, helping to uphold the laws and make everyday life safer for everyone.
Not every dog gets through police K9 training
But before they are assigned to their various departments, these K9 units must receive the training they need to properly complete their duties. Many K9s start their training at an early age, being picked for the role due to their temperament, ability to follow a handler’s orders, and drive to complete the tasks given them. Even then, not all pass the rigorous training.
Making their communities safer
Like many K9s, in addition to his duties as a puppy rescuer, K9 Tek also has a variety of other duties to fill, including helping his partner in the apprehension of suspects and finding drugs and other contraband. Thanks to K9s like Tek and their handlers, communities across the country are much safer.
