K-9 Officer Lucas was with Deputy Todd Frazier and was roving in the area during their night shift.

The two were probably on their usual work routine, not knowing they would find trouble along the way.

Deputy Frazier was headed to a deserted road when he noticed a car stopped by.

It was at a rest stop in Pearlington, Mississippi, and he wondered if everything was okay.

He saw a man sitting by the driver’s seat inside a blue Lincoln Town Car with all its lights off.

He stopped thinking that the man needed help.

A pure, good intention turned into a nightmare at that point.

According to Hancock County Chief Investigator Glenn Grannan, Deputy Frazier was standing near the car when he heard movement from the nearby woods.

That’s when two men rushed towards him.

The deputy started backing away from the vehicle but tripped and fell to the ground.

That’s when all three male subjects ambushed the police officer.

They cut his forehead with a sharp object, then dragged him into the woods where they appeared.

But while he was struggling to break free from his captors, he was still quick to think and move to reach out for something to save him.

Deputy Frazier was able to trigger the remote control around his belt and unlock the backdoor of his car.

And you guessed it right, K-9 Officer Lucas was back there and sprung out when the door unlocked.

He ran towards his deputy partner and bit one of the suspects, and all three fled with their car.

The police officer knew that Lucas would save him at that moment.

“He knew. I could hear him coming. I couldn’t see anything because the blood was all in my eyes, but I could hear him coming, growling and making these sounds… he sounded like a wolf,” Deputy Frazier told Clarion Ledger.

It was also both luck and fate that Deputy Frazier used that patrol car with Lucas that night.

He said that their sheriff’s office had four K-9 Officer units, but only two of their patrol cars had that remote control to trigger a pop-up mechanism and unlock the backseat.

He would have had a much worse fate if they had used otherwise.

Deputy Frazier and Lucas both got injuries that night, but both were alive and safe.

Deputy Frazier suffered knife wounds, while Lucas had broken his four canine teeth, a broken gum line, and a torn ACL.

You could tell from his injuries that Lucas meant business at that time and that business was to save his partner’s life.

Deputy Frazier was thankful that K-9 Officer Lucas was there in time to save him.

“I had three people on me, and I’m not a very big man, and they basically whipped my butt. And luckily, thank God, I had Lucas… That’s why he’s my hero,” he said.
