Amazing police K9 takes down suspect with a super jump
If you are Duke the police K9, you take no crap from anyone, especially a suspect wanted for domestic violence. And while many police K9s go above and beyond every day in the line of duty, Duke took it to the next level. His heroics have landed him nationwide attention as the Internet is abuzz with his brave act.
A police chase ends with the suspect holed up in his disabled vehicle
The whole thing started when a suspect led police on a car chased along a variety of freeways in Southern California. The man was wanted for multiple domestic-violence related felonies. The officers were eventually able to stop the suspect using a combination spike strip and pit maneuver to spin the driver out, thus bringing the car chase to an end.
Duke is released by his handler to do his job
Unfortunately, the suspect was still in the vehicle and had to be safely extracted. After police broke the vehicle’s driver side window with a bean bag round, one officer decided to rele3ase his K9 unit. That was when Duke sprung into action, literally springing through the shattered window to get at the suspect.
Duke makes a super jump through the window of the vehicle
A Belgian Malinois, Duke flung himself at the suspect and was able to fly through the window and latch onto him. Duke was no stranger to danger having served a tour of duty in Iraq, where he served in the U/S/Marine Corps as a Military War Dog.
“I was in shock. Thinking, ‘Wow! My dog is doing it and doing great,” said Duke’s partner, Corona Police Officer Michael Neff.
After the incident, Duke walked away from the ordeal virtually unharmed. The suspect, on the other hand, suffered several dog bites. The police officers on the scene also had to taser the suspect as he continued to resist arrest, even after Duke had his way with him.
Other police K9s that have gone above and beyond
Duke is not the first police K9 unit to perform heroically in the line of duty. In one instance a K9 unit was deployed to help a SWAT team take down a suspect with a pipe bomb. After hour-long standoff police released the K9 unit which quickly rushed in to secure the suspect, wrestling him on the ground using his powerful jaws.
In one hilarious incident, police had been in pursuit of a Hummer limo that had been stolen by one suspect. And while a long chase ensued, eventually the vehicle was disabled and the thief was forced to flee the scene on foot. Surprisingly, as he jumped out of the limo, it was seen that he was naked. This didn’t matter to the K9 unit on the scene as he quickly moved in and took down the suspect.
The dedication of the nation’s police K9s is unmatched
All of this just goes to show how dedicated police K9 units are to the job they do each day. They think nothing of putting their lives at risk to apprehend suspects, even performing feats of amazing agility and bravery while doing so. Here is a video with more on Duke’s amazing super jump.
