K9 teaches man the hard way why you should never ignore a police officer’s order
A properly trained police K9 unit is ever vigilant and ready to respond when needed. Most often, police K9 units find themselves on the front lines on the streets of the community in which they serve. Their dedication to their duty is unmatched, as one man learned during an altercation.
Responding to reports of a fight
When Marion County Sheriff’s Corporal Alan Lee responded to a call at a McDonald’s in Ocala, Florida, he thought he was responding to a simple dispute among the restaurant’s patrons. Little did he know that the call would call for the aid of his partner, K9 Zeus, who remained in the car as Corporal Lee approached the altercation.
The fight soon gets out of hand
The fight had started inside but had soon spilled into the parking lot. By the time the officer and his partner arrived, the dispute had escalated into a fight in the parking lot of the McDonald’s.
As the pair arrive via squad car, Corporal Lee exits the vehicle and approaches the group of people gathered outside. As Lee approaches the fight stops but is soon in full swing again. Soon, the situation starts to get out of hand. On the video, you can hear Zeus barking in the car as his partner gets in a tussle with one of the suspects
Corporal Lee tries to separate two of the people involved in the fight
The fight continues as two of the people in the parking lot seemed determined to continue the fight despite the orders from Corporal Lee to stop. Lee grabs one of the people involved in the fight and throws him off of the other man. Spinning, the young man falls prone to the ground. Soon, though, the man gets up and goes after his opponent once again.
Introducing the suspect to Zeus
At this point, Officer Lee has had enough and remotely opens the door of the back door of the SUV, releasing Zeus. Zeus wastes no time and charges into the fray, grabbing the large man Corporal Lee had tried to separate from the fight by the leg. In the video you can hear the man’s screams as Zeus wrestles him to the ground.
Zeus makes quick work of the suspect
Soon, Officer Lee has the suspect detained and has to pull Zeus back who is upset about the treatment of his partner. A K9, such as Zeus, is a perfect example of why you should always listen to and obey a lawful order from a police officer. While tensions might be high, someone who decides to disobey a police officer could end up on the ground like this young man, screaming and crying for their mom.
“A K-9 is considered less than lethal force, and in this moment, that was our deputy’s backup,” Marion County Sheriff’s Spokeswoman Cecelia Koon told WOFL. “He was in the position where he needed to utilize that K-9 for his own safety and the safety of others in the area.”
Lee and Zeus are a credit to their community
