K-9 unit shows up law enforcement officers in funniest Git Up Challenge yet
Ah, the Git Up Challenge.
If you haven’t heard of it, then you haven’t been on YouTube in months (congrats!). It’s all based on a song by Blanco Brown whose official video for his hit “The Git Up” has been seen over 53 million times on YouTube.
It’s his follow-up videos showing people how to do the matching dance, however, that is getting people off their butts and on their feet.
Brown has inspired something called The Git Up Challenge.
A call for people to record themselves performing the hip new take on an old country dance, and challenging friends and colleagues to do the same.
Part of what made the whole 2019 phenomenon so popular is that the steps are easy. That means each “entry” had to add a little something special.
And, let’s face it, what’s more special than dogs?!
One of the cutest entries was uploaded by the Sutter County Sheriff’s Office.
The California law enforcement officials teamed up with Yuba City Police Department, Sutter County Courts, and Sutter County Code Enforcement to accept the “challenge” posed by a neighboring jurisdiction in November of 2019.
That was pretty late, considering it was a summer challenge, but the Internet really has no rules.
It has now been viewed over 3.7 million times since it was uploaded, and we can see why – it’s full of personality with the furry addition of their K9 special guest star.
The best part? The law officials came up with a riveting story-line!
The video begins with a tiff between a city and a county officer vying for the same spot in an empty parking lot – so it looks like some local drama is brewing. After a little back and forth, the commanding officers for each unit come out to see what’s going on and try to figure out a solution.
And what better solution than a good old-fashioned dance-off?! We certainly can’t think of a better way to handle the situation. It’s very West Side Story.
But, hey, nobody is in the right here! They’re on the court’s property. The only logical thing to do would be to have more city officials step into the dance.
NOW we’re ready to solve some problems!
The good humor of the officers and staff, the addition of a storyline and, of course, smooth moves are what makes some of these videos so popular. What more could you want?
Well, a dog, for starters.
And that’s just what they do by involving their K-9 unit member, Officer Enzo!
Enzo apparently did not show up for rehearsal.
Don’t expect to see him bust too many moves. Rather, this brave and adorable German Shepherd is there to supervise.
He seems a little confused about all the dancing, but like any good K-9 officer, he doesn’t get involved unless asked to. While the humans are great and all, once we spot Enzo, he’s really all we’re looking for at this point.
The agile K-9 does manage a few “spins” at roughly the right time, which is clearly enough to make him one of the official stars of the clip. Or, at least in our book it is.
As the camera pans back, we can see the officers have drawn a bit of an audience. Not a big surprise once you realize how silly it must look to see cops dancing in the parking lot.
We’d like to see more of Enzo, but it is rather fun to keep an eye out for him in a “Where’s Waldo” kind of fashion.
When the dancers “take it down now, take it take it down now,” the super smart K-9 even lays down!
Can we get an all-Enzo version of The Git Up Challenge?!
As the team finishes up, they all give each other high-fives for the great performance. Don’t worry, Enzo gets a pat on the head as well!
