Keith Urban asked to sing National Anthem for the 1st time – makes entire crowd fall silent

Last May 2017, country star Keith Urban fulfilled one of the greatest honors and privileges of his musical career.

Keith Urban is a multi-awarded country singer originally from New Zealand and Australia and has called Nashville, Tennessee, USA, home since 1992.

He is the husband to Hollywood actress, Nicole Kidman, and together, they have two daughters, Sunday Rose and Faith Margaret.

Since he started his musical career in 1990 in Australia, he has received so many honors professionally and personally. And this one is especially memorable because it solidifies his status as an American citizen and Nashville resident.

The Nashville Predators have asked Keith Urban to sing the Star-Spangled Banner before Game 3 of the Western Conference Final.

It was one of Keith Urban’s proudest moments and he never thought he would get asked to sing the US National Anthem in a different crowd.

And, because he is the great singer that he is, he obviously nailed the performance. The crowd and everyone present listened in silence to Keith singing the anthem perfectly.

And when he sang the last note, everybody cheered for Keith and his beautiful performance.

Keith was interviewed by NHL Network reporter, Jon Morosi, after his performance to get an insight into his thoughts.

“I’ve lived in America for 25 years. I’ve never been asked to sing the National Anthem, so it’s such an honor to do it here in Nashville for the Preds,” Keith Urban replied.

Jon Morosi teased Keith Urban a bit during the interview when he said that there have been so many notable singers who’ve sung the National Anthem before him.

He teased Keith even more and asked how much competition there is with this privilege.

“It’s a nerve-wracking experience, but above all, it’s a huge honor,” Keith Urban answered. “For me, for all the years I’ve lived here, it’s probably one of the proudest moments ever in my life.”

Before Keith Urban’s performance, country singers Carrie Underwood, Vince Gill, Little Big Town, Luke Bryan, and Lady Antebellum have all performed the US National Anthem during the Stanley Cup playoffs.

Keith Urban also proved to be a lucky charm for the Nashville Predators during Game 3. They beat the Anaheim Ducks 2 to 1, giving them a 2-1 series lead.

There was one person though who wasn’t thrilled with Keith Urban’s privilege.

Dennis K. Morgan was disappointed at the decision to have Keith Urban sing. Dennis has performed the Star-Spangled Banner for the Nashville Predators 185 times since 2000.

At first, they told him Carrie Underwood would sing during the playoff game at home. He didn’t mind, especially since Carrie Underwood is the wife of the Predators’ captain, Mike Underwood.

“It was presented to me as a one night only kind of thing and I agreed to it,” Dennis K. Morgan said.

But that one night deal extended into inviting different well-known singers and musicians to perform the anthem during home games at the playoffs.

“Then they continued to bring in these other singers and touted them as ‘A-listers,’ which kind of hurt me. I don’t blame Carrie Underwood or Luke Bryan or any of the other acts who have performed. I’ve been as good-natured as I can be,” Dennis K Morgan continued. “But most of the time I’ll toe the company line and say, ‘Why am I not singing? Because I don’t have seven Grammys, I’m not married to the captain, she’s a whole lot prettier than me,’ that kind of thing and try to leave it at that.”

Morgan was looking forward to celebrating his 25th year performing for the Nashville Predators during the 2018-19 season but it was not meant to be.
