Kind man with no kids of his own pays off children's lunch debt across 9 different Florida schools

Sure, there can be a lot of hate in the world, but there are also a lot of wonderful moments.

Earlier this year, a bus driver in Alabama bought breakfast for 50 kids when school was delayed on a snow day, and now the good deeds are continuing as another man in Florida decided to pay off children’s lunch debt across 9 different schools, purely out of the kindness of his heart.

The man is Andrew Levy, a real estate agent who discovered that the town of Jupiter had 9 schools that all had a large amount of lunch debt. So what did he decide to do? Pay them all off.

The debt that built up across the 9 public schools in Jupiter came out to be $944, so he got rid of it and paid for it himself.

“Food is something that you shouldn’t have to think about,” Levy said to CBS-4. “Children shouldn’t have to learn hungry. These children that were in debt were going to either not eat or they would get just cheese sandwiches, and I thought that’s crazy.”

As he mentioned, students who have lunch debt at school aren’t even given full meals. Instead, they are given cheese sandwiches — some real Fyre Fest type of stuff.

This broke Levy’s heart. He explained that all kids should be given enough food so that they can learn properly, he also explained that cheese sandwiches just are not the right kind of fuel for children.

Perhaps the best part of this story is that there was no real motive behind Levy’s kind gesture. He considers it as a nice thing he did and nothing more. He has no kids of his own and no real connection to the schools, but that did not matter to him.

“I thought, ‘You know something? If for a modest sum I could make that change, I’m gonna do it,’” he said. “I went in there and I said, ‘I want to pay off the lunch debt.’”

Levy hasn’t even been in the Jupiter area for that long. He moved there in 2014 and quickly fell in love with the town. So he paid $944,34 to make sure that no child would go hungry ever again (or at least for a very long time!).

It is nothing more than a “kind gesture,” according to Levy, but the big donation surprisingly went viral.

When news of his donation broke out, people nearly broke his Facebook inbox, messaging the man and asking him how they can do their part and help the children. The story was also picked up by several news outlets because it was that touching.

“I even have had some clients over the past 48 hours say, ‘You know something, I want to help, I want to give too.'”

“Every quarter, I’m going to do either a GoFundMe page or a fundraising page that can raise money every quarter, so lunch debt never accumulates so that children never have to worry about a hot meal and parents never have to worry about paying the bill,” he said.

“A Child Can’t Learn Hungry,” his first-ever GoFundMe campaign, has already reached his initial goal of $2,500 to pay off lunch debt. He selflessly hopes to make it so that no child in Jupiter and/or Florida ever has to worry about food ever again.

“Back in August, I read that lunch debt existed in the Jupiter School District that would prevent children from having a hot lunch. It might even prevent children from eating. This shocked me! I’ve been lucky enough never to have to worry about food while in school, so I paid it off.”

“Now is your chance to help to make sure no child ever goes hungry again and has a hot lunch in school,” his GoFundMe page reads. “Plus, they will never have to experience school-shaming that comes with it.”
