Kindhearted plumber fixes heating and plumbing for over 10,000 elderly neighbors for free
This pandemic has given us so many challenges. Many have lost their jobs, and the only way to survive is by spending their savings wisely and look for part-time jobs.
While most of us are looking for ways on how we can save money, this kind-hearted plumber from Lancashire, England, has happily spent $77,000 during the pandemic.
He didn’t spend this money shopping or partying; he spent all this money to help thousands of people in need so he would be able to fix their plumbing and heating – for free.
Meet James Anderson, 53, who has wholeheartedly provided his plumbing services to the elderly and disabled families. He has been doing this since 2017, launching a non-profit company he calls Depher.
His incredible mission first started when James was asked to visit a home where an old and disabled man wanted a second opinion. They discovered that a heating company was actually trying to con the elderly man for £5,500!
James was heartbroken and disgusted by this reality. There, he decided to create Depher or Disabled and Elderly Plumbing and Heating Emergency Response. Since then, he has been helping people in need.
Since the start of his company, James has been working so hard, around 70 hours a week, just to share his services with those in need. He, along with his team of kind-hearted samaritans, have helped more than 10,000 people and families.
”We began just doing plumbing and heating, but we saw many individuals struggling it felt like it was wrong to stop there,” he said to brainwealthy. “Anything we can do, we will try to do.”
Since the pandemic, James and his friends have also provided other services such as providing food, PPE, parcels, and even offering to pay bills for people.
James, a father of six children, confessed that he has spent £57,000 during the Covid-19 pandemic alone. However, according to him, it was all worth every penny, and that he’d still do his best to help more people.
“If you’ve got disabilities, issues, sometimes these things can become too difficult to overcome, and we want to make sure they’re taken care of,” James said. “We’ve all got a social responsibility to each other – we need to be there for each other.”
It’s incredible that despite all that’s happening in our world today, there are still people who are willing to help. James and his volunteers are doing their best to help people in need, especially the elderly people who need all the help they could get.
James’ selfless acts were first noticed when a photo of a £0 bill went viral. It was when he helped a 91-year-old woman with leukemia with her plumbing and heating that caught the media’s attention.
“Doing all of this has actually made me recognize the truth of our communities, the amount of individuals who are having a hard time. And you can’t simply sit by and not do anything,” he said in his interview.
That photo was just one of the many letters and messages that James has been receiving. Reading them in his Instagram account only shows how much these people appreciate his kindness and effort.
Some of the people he helped gave him simple tokens of appreciation, such as cards and heartfelt letters.
Reading them just fills your heart with so much love. Plumbing and heating work/repair is a tough job, but James was right; the happiness of helping those people in need is immeasurable.
”Its been a great deal of sweat and discomfort,” James said, “but were continuing till the great male upstairs tells me I’m done.”
Unfortunately, an update on Depher’s GoFundMe account shared that James contracted Covid, but is now doing okay and still resting.
According to the update, James still “struggles to breathe or do typical things, he has stress and anxiety attacks and sleep issues.”
We are all hoping for James’ fast recovery. For all those who want to share their blessings, and help Depher with its cause, please don’t hesitate to donate to this GoFundMe account.
