During this time of uncertainty, it’s hard not to let the daily updates of the Coronavirus pandemic sink in and cause worry and panic – there is seemingly plenty to go around. Many of us are concerned about today, tomorrow, and what the future may bring.

Community seems important, now more than ever, and humanity has a way of showing how heartfelt it can truly be in times of struggle.

1. Professor and author Roxane Gay generously offered to send money to help individuals afford groceries.

Gay is the author of the New York Times best-selling essay collection entitled “Bad Feminist”, and here she shows us something she’s good at – her humanity, by stepping up to help out the community.

2. Chinese billionaire Jack Ma has offered to donate 500,000 test kits and one million face masks to the United States to help with shortages.

The co-founder of the online retail store Alibaba is stepping up to help, and he wishes “all the best to our friends in America”. He’s also working on aid to Japan, Korea, Italy, Iran and Spain.

3. Asiyah and Jawad Javed, owners of Day Today Express, a cornershop in Scotland is giving anyone over the age of 65 free face masks, antibacterial hand gel, and cleaning wipes.

The couple is generously trying to help the older population out, as some of them can’t make it to the grocery store because of age and mobility.

4. The doctors in Wuhan, China are celebrating the closure of their last temporary hospital as the number of new cases drops dramatically.

The doctors shared an uplifting video, showing them finally removing their masks after around-the-clock attention and dedication to the delicate situation in China.

5. While school is mandatorily closed down in Cleveland, Ohio, the Metropolitan school district is providing free breakfast and lunch to kids.

They are directly reaching out to the community, offering meals to ANY children 18 years or younger who don’t have access to food. They have 22 sites around the community for meal pickup and are ready to feed!

6. Hyundai and its luxury brand Genesis are pledging to cover up six months of car payments for owners who may lose their jobs in the wake of the pandemic.

In addition to payment forgiveness, customers during this time period can also have their payments deferred for 90 days if they financed at zero percent.

7. Landlords are exercising compassion to help ease their tenants’ financial burden.

Maine landlord Nathan Nichols is stepping up to protect his tenants in this time of crisis, announcing that he wouldn’t be collecting rent in April. His generous act of kindness has already stimulated other landlords to follow suit!

8. The luxury fashion and cosmetic brand LVMH is distributing free hand-sanitizer in France.

The corporation that is responsible for brands like Marc Jacobs, Fendi, and Louis Vuitton is preparing “substantial quantities” of disinfecting gel to help minimize the spread of the virus.

9. Woolworths launches an ‘Elderly-Only’ shopping hour every day.

The Australian supermarket chain has dedicated an hour each day to make shopping exclusive for the elderly and disabled. Target also recently announced that they would be reserving the first hour of shopping every Wednesday to support vulnerable guests.

10. Chicago’s Shedd Aquarium is doing its part to spread lightness of heart by giving its resident penguins free-rein of the park.

With no human guests at the aquarium, keepers let a group of their rockhopper penguins loose to explore exhibits and habitats outside of their own. The footage is spreading a healthy dose of joy!

11. With Japanese schools mandatorily closed, some kids have creatively gathered together to hold a digital graduation ceremony.

A group of elementary school students, unable to attend their own graduation, met up together online in the world of Minecraft to graduate over the internet. They are even given tiny little Minecraft diplomas!
